Our home

Our "Honu Hale" (honu means turtle here on Oahu)is a wonderfully rustic beachfront home with lots of amenities and recent upgrades. The unit is small but the ceramic tile flooring throughout the living/kitchen/hall/bath area create an openness that belies its size. There is carpeting in the bedroom. The backporch is only steps from the beach where during the year one might see spinner dolphins, humpback whales, or large, green sea turtles frolicing in the water. You will also have the use of a single person kayak and a 4 person raft for exploring the waters. Don't forget to bring your snorkling equipment as the reefs offer wonderful sights.

Who we are

  1. We are Bob and Judy Brownell, a newly-wed couple in our late 50's. :-)) Bob has lived here in this home since 1980 when he built it and Judy was lucky enough to get to become a part of it in Dec. of 2004. Bob is a semi-retired tech specialist from Unisys Corp and now is a programming webmaster and terrific house-husband. Judy is a special education teacher working with at-risk students in an alternative learning program. We take a lot of pride in our home and would do the same with yours. Our dream exchange would be with someone who has a lakefront home as our future plan is to eventually have a home on a lake somewhere in the southeast of the mainland. We aren't really interested in exchanging homes in the North or Northeast as cold weather is not our thing. :-))

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is located in a quiet cul-de-sac in the sugar mill town of Waialua, just minutes away from the famous North Shore hippy village of Haleiwa. About 7-8 miles down Kamehameha Hwy. is Waimea Bay and Sunset Beaches where the annual National surfing contests take place in the winter months. Near by is the filming location of the tv series, "Lost". Heading back South on Kam., you are about a 45 minute drive to downtown Waikiki on a light traffic day. The freeway is about 15 minutes up the hill and you can do a round island drive in about 4-5 hrs. (that's not counting stopping at all the incredible sights you will encounter!).
