Our home

Our sweet home is in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to a 35 acre forested city park with golf course and miles of hiking trails. It’s 2.6 miles from the beach. Santa Cruz is located adjacent to the incredible Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. We are 70 miles from San Francisco, 40 minutes from the San Jose Tech Museum and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Easy day trips to Big Sur and Carmel. Santa Cruz County is home to many noted restaurants, wineries and micro-breweries. World class surfing.

Four spectacular redwood state parks are clustered in Santa Cruz County, including Big Basin and Henry Cowell, where towering mountain redwoods meet sandy beaches. The 4,300 acres of redwoods in Big Basin are among the largest stands of old-growth (never logged) redwoods in the world.

Our home, though modest, is fully equipped; it is also close to organic food stores, restaurants, coffee shops, entertainment, and the downtown. The house is a two-bedroom, two-bath with good separation of the two main bedrooms, as well as a separate den/office. Tastefully appointed and decorated with eclectic original art, there is also a welcoming private patio just off the kitchen for al fresco meals.

The gardens are quiet and soothing, including a year-round vegetable garden. The home is functional and comfortable. There is no cable TV, but there is Wi-fi, a DVD player, and Apple TV with Netflix and Amazon. Two bicycles are available and potentially we are willing to share our car.

Who we are

  1. Timmi and Paul have been enjoying their home since 2010, building a thriving home organic orchard and vegetable/flower and ornamental gardens. We also enjoy volunteering, hiking, biking, visiting with our family, reading, music, art and travel.
We are active seniors who love to walk, visit gardens, grow organic fruits and vegetables. Love to hike and bike, enjoy the beach. Timmi is a retired nurse Midwife and Paul retired from a long career in public health. We have traveled in Europe, Mexico, Latin America, Canada, Hawaii, Oregon, and New Mexico. We are interested in visiting Cornwall/Devon, Bath, Costa Rica, Kauai, Puerto Vallarta, France, Spain, and Portugal

We take great care of our home and will treat an exchange home with the same care. A folder about the operation of the home makes it easy.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our quiet neighborhood backs up to the wooded De Laveaga Park and the plateau above that overlooks the spectacular Monterey Bay. This creates a nice warm climate where "banana belt" plants grow well year-round.
At the west end of Prospect Heights is the entrance to the beautiful De Laveaga Golf Course where there are many accessible uncrowded trails to enjoy nature.
