Our home

You might think you're in the mountains at our house, with its woody interior (we prefer to call it rustic contemporary) and big pine trees, but actually, we're less than a mile from the beach. Our home is comfortable, with a large living room, dining room and fully-equipped kitchen. We have a large playroom with too many toys, and an upstairs sitting room for sunset viewing. Bedrooms have a queen bed in the master, three twin beds in the kids rooms and a queen murphy bed in the office. Outside we have a swingset, playhouse and hot tub, plus a large yard area. If you stand on a balcony and jump, you can see the ocean.

Who we are

  1. We are an adventurous family of 4, including mom (me), dad, two girls ages 5 and 7, a geriatric fish named Bubbles and wandering cat named Alex that claimed us several years ago. My name is Kim and I am a self-employed writer, marketing strategist and mom. My husband, Scott is a scientist with a local biotech company. Our girls, Sophie and Rebecca are in second grade and preschool respectively. After finding an outrageously low fare on British Airways, we made a spontaneous purchase and are now London-bound in March. We can't wait to experience the history, culture and even the cold, wet weather.

It is our hope that the planets will be aligned to make a house swap with a family that lives in London close to the tube. The adventure of house swapping is almost as much fun as the trip.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live in Cardiff by the Sea, a funky beach community about 20 miles north of San Diego. From our home, you can walk down a magical canyon pathway to the beach, gourmet market, pub, library, park and restaurants.
People who live here like to surf and bask in the sun (about 70 degrees year round and hardly any rain). We have a good life here.

About a 30 minute drive away, San Diego's abundance of activity awaits -- more beaches, Sea World, the World Famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park Museums, too much shopping and yummy restaurants.
About 10 minutes from our home, we also have Legoland for kids 5-12. It's great fun.

The mountains and desert are about a 45 minute drive away, where mountain biking, hiking are everywhere. In late March, it should be a good time for wildflowers and desert flowers.

On a really good day, you can go to the snow and surf on the same day. As I said, we have a good life.
