Our home

A Spanish Colonial home, our house sits in the middle of Encanto-Palmcroft Historic District, which was rated by Fortune Magazine as the second best place to live--in the entire United States! A family-friendly neighborhood, the homes here were built between 1923 and 1965, and the pride and care the neighbors place in their home is evident.

Situated on almost a full acre, the home was originally built in 1935 (which is pretty unusual in Phoenix: "old" here is 10 years old!). With tons of windows and French doors that open onto the interior courtyard and the grounds, the house is filled with light, and every room is able to enjoy the green grass (also different: Phoenix is a desert, but living here, you'd never know it!).

With wood floors throughout, there are 5 large bedrooms, with two upstairs (both with their own balcony) and 3 bedrooms downstairs. There are 4 baths, an indoor laundry room with washer and dryer, & a large gourmet kitchen with double ovens, gas range, plus a large breakfast room and separate formal dining room. The front living room is huge, and boasts coved ceilings and a super comfy couch. There is a separate family/play room. The backyard features a large pool with safety net, slide/playground equipment, and a fabulous patio with a gas firepit. There is also a beautiful koi pond with waterfall.

It's a fabulous home in a fabulous location, and we've been blessed to live here in it. We're sure you'll love it, to.

Who we are

  1. My husband and I have 6-year-old twins, a great big Golden Retriever dog, two cats, and 7 koi fish. We love to travel, and though we've lived in Phoenix for most of our lives, we've discovered more in the past year of what Arizona has to offer than all of the past years combined! We've skiied up north in Flagstaff (a 2-hour drive), swam at Watson's Lake (1 hour north), boated on the Colorado River (4 hours), and hiked the many parks and mountains about town (some only 5 minutes away!). With the kids being at that age where they can come with us now, we've really taken advantage of it, and we're having a blast!

I am a writer by trade, and my husband is a software engineer. Our children are in Kindergarten, so we're active in their schools and with their friends.

Our children both have some learning disabilities, so our lives up to this point have been really focused on therapy, learning, having everything planned out in advance and "just so". It's been stressful, and while it's absolutely crazy for us to just chuck it and leave everything for 6 months to a year to travel, we're at a point where we just thought, "Why not?" We all deserve a little break, and we can't think of a better way to de-stress and learn new things and be with each other than to take a grand adventure without so much planning. It could be the best learning tool they ever receive, which is why we're open to living anywhere.

Crazy, we know; but we want our kids to know there is more to life.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Close to everything, we're less than one minute from the freeway, which gives you access to all of the adjoining cities, from Paradise Valley to Scottsdale to Mesa, most of which you can get to in less than 10 minutes. The Arts District is down the block, world-class shopping and dining are right here, and the pro sports teams play within a 5-minute drive. There is always something going on, from First Fridays Art Walks to the neighborhood Halloween Parade or Summer Ice Cream Social.

One of the reasons we have loved living here (this is our third home in the neighborhood!) is because it's a friendly walking neighborhood. There is always someone about, walking the dog or pushing a stroller or playing with their children in the front yard.

There is also a large park with an amusement park, a golf course, tennis courts, and fishing a block away. The park is very busy on the weekends, from special events to families having barbeques, and during the week, you'll stumble on little treasures, like the Rennaisance Festival that is put on every Wednesday, complete with Lords, Ladies, and Knights jousting. Dog frisbee is a favorite at the park, too, as is roller blading, biking, or just playing softball.

Rated as the second best neighborhood to live in in the entire United States, everyone here is very friendly, very outgoing, and very cosmoplitan. There are a number of professors, lawyers, engineers, and doctors, and many have enjoyed stints oversees.
