Our home

Our house is a 4+ bedroom, 3 bath home on four levels(5 steps between levels). Two bedrooms have queen size beds, one bedroom has a twin bed and a full-size futon. The fourth bedroom is a study/library with computer and wireless internet access. There is also a large (private) playroom with a pullout sleeper sofa and another queen mattress. The living room has a large bay window, fireplace and cable TV. Off the dining room there is a beautiful sunporch opening out onto a deck. All of this overlooks a shady backyard with a gas grill, an herb and vegetable garden, and a chicken pen (with chickens -- for fresh eggs!!).

The house is located in a quiet neighborhood on a dead-end street with friendly neighbors and many children (toddlers to teens). We have many options and can always find a responsible babysitter so we can take advantage of the night-life in Amherst and Northampton.

Who we are

  1. I (Linda, 44) am a 3rd grade teacher (former coach, yoga teacher and shiatsu practitioner) and avid gardener. My son is 9 years old and loves cars, soccer, frisbee, and outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, biking, camping and swimming. My partner (Tariq, 31) is a former ESL and Spanish teacher, and world traveler. He lived for three years in Madrid and recently visited Italy. He is preparing for graduate school to study Speech Pathology. We are all very active and love to run, hike, camp, play tennis, and ultimate frisbee. We are looking for an exchange in the summer months sometime between June 25 and August 25.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house is situated between the towns of Amherst and Northampton in the Pioneer Valley along the Connecticut River. It is 90 minutes to Boston, and 2 1/2 hours to NYC. We are in the heart of the 5 college area, with many arts and cultural events offered through the universities all year long. There is also an active and vibrant arts community with all kinds of music (at a variety of music houses like the Iron Horse Entertainment Group), film (Northampton Film Festival), theater (KO, and several Summer Theater Workshops) and dance in the area. People come from all over to shop and eat at the fine restaurants in Northampton. There are also many options for swimming, and boating or canoeing: rivers, lakes, streams, reservoirs, and pools. We are also very close to a bike path and many parks and conservation areas connected to a small mountain range. So there are also many options for walking, biking, and hiking.

This is an ideal vacation spot! It has all the offerings and attractions of a larger metropolitan area without the noise, pollution, traffic and crowds.
