Our home

The house is a typical large wooden contemporary New England, centrally heated, all season vacation home, standing on about three quarters of an acre of wooded and lawn grounds with a small pond. It has four floors- Finished basement, used as den and office with a full bathroom, but can also be used as an extra bedroom, and two car garage, First floor has a breeze way entry to a hallway ("mud Room") leading to an open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area with double height cathedral ceilings , laundry and a seperate powder room. The deck and screen porch lead off this level. Second floor- two bedrooms, one en suite, a guest bedroom and full bathroom. The top floor, the loft has been finished as an open plan lounge/dormitory with a full bathroom. In summer and fall the deck and screen porch are the living center but in winter only the sauna and jacuzzi are used and the open plan lounge with big screen TV is the focal point. The bedrooms have either king or queen beds and the loft can sleep up to five- usually children- as there is a TV and computer with internet access. Heating is by gas central heating through under floor ducts with gas fires in the fireplaces and a wood stove in the screen porch(only used in fall). Cars are parked in the garage or under the deck/screen porch. The best times to visit are summer through fall( May to October) and winter (December to March). November is a "dead" month except for Thanksgiving and spring is muddy, usually wet and subject to blackfly.

Who we are

  1. We are a retired couple, my wife is Trinidadian,a medical doctor and I am English, a chartered accountant and former businessman. We have lived and worked in Trindad for the last fourty years and now spend our year between the Caribbean, New Hampshire, in the USA, where we keep a second home( also listed on Home for Exchange #51311), and in Europe. We are keen travellers and have no ties as our children are grown up and our grandchildren are small. We look forward to visiting new countries and meeting people. Our personal interests are travelling, skiing, yachting, theatre, classical music, and good food and wine.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is in the wooded, gently sloping foothills of the Moat Mountains, about three miles north of North Conway, which itself is about equi distant from Boston (120 miles) and Montreal (150 miles). The nearest cities are Portland Maine (60 miles) and Portsmouth NH (also 60 miles). The area is part of the Mount Washington Valley at the entrance to the White mountains. Scenery is incredibly beautiful with wildlife, lakes, rivers, woods and mountains. In summer golf, tennis, horse riding, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, rock climbing balance shopping in the outlet centers (NH has no sales taxes). The local inns maintain excellent restaurants and there is a wide variety of theatre and other entertainment available. In fall the "leaf" season takes over with probably the best foliage show in the USA and in winter the emphasis is on Alpine skiing at the many close by ski hills with cross country skiing, snowmobiling and ice skating all available. Children are well catered for with attractions such as Storyland, a scenic railway, and many community activities. A car is essential as public transport is sparse, unfortunately insurance restrictions prevent us from offering the use of one of ours but there are four mountain bikes and a very full ski locker available.
