Our home

My home sits in a parklike setting, amidst grassy lawns and gardens. Built in 1790, the house is newly renovated, furnished warmly and is in a small town with many antique homes. There's a back terrace where we barbeque and picnic when returning from the nearby beach or simply sit and read in the calm outdoors. The house is spacious and calm and very lovely!

Who we are

  1. Many years ago, when my children were small, we exchanged homes with a family in England. The exchange was wonderful for both parties; indeed, we've remained friends and continue to visit one another all these years later!
Now I'm looking again to venture forth. A university lecturer, I've travelled a great deal in Europe. This time round, I'd like to stay for two, three or four weeks, to get into the daily rhythm of the place -- marketing, strolling, reading and writing, antiquing, cooking, and getting to know 'the place' well!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is located near Port Jefferson, a town about 60 miles from Manhattan, halfway out Long Island. There's an easy train ride to the city (about 1 1/2 hours on the commuter train) and easy access to eastern Long Island, with its white sandy beaches, lovely small towns, the Hamptons, vineyards and farms. From Port Jefferson, we take the ferry to Connecticut and then on to New England. There's a university 10 minutes away, with its large cultural center offering first class music, film and theatre. Many fine restaurants and places for shore dining (fish!) are nearby.
