Our home

Beautiful, with large windows featuring views into majestic oak trees, and eleven skylights, our home is bright and cheerful, great for comfortable lounging after a day on the golf course, hiking trails, exploring nearby San Francisco or the Sonoma/Napa Wine Country. New chef's kitchen with six-burner gas stove and huge refrigerator. Upstairs: bedroom with California king sized bed; office which could serve as another bedroom if needed; bathroom with shower. Downstairs: bedroom with bunkbeds and bathroom with deep soaking tub and double pedestal sinks. Large patio with outdoor furniture for lounging and dining in front, with restaurant style outdoor heat lamp and firepit, accessible by French doors from Great Room; redwood deck in back. Our children are 9 and 11, so there are bicycles for an entire family. Sometimes we travel without them, while they stay with their local grandparents. Having travelled the world, we believe this is one of the most beautiful spots anywhere, especially for those who love the great outdoors as well as proximity to the great city of San Francisco and all that it offers culturally, visually and in the way of fun.

Who we are

  1. We are Karen and Scott Schneider. Our children are Cleve (8) and Gina (6). I am a former lawyer, now stay-at-home mom and professional photographer. Scott is a civil engineer. Our interests include long-distance running (especially on the trails near our house), attending live musical performances (eighties pop is a particular favorite), and collecting American ceramic tile and tableware. We both grew up in California and have travelled the world some. We especially love the U.K., where we honeymooned; Europe; and Mexico. We have also explored Southeast Asia and enjoyed the tremendous hospitality and generosity of the people there.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

San Francisco is 30 minutes south of here by car, and slightly longer by bus or ferry boat. Two gorgeous golf courses are within ten minutes from here, with six more within a half-hour's easy drive. Sausalito and sailing on the SF Bay are 20 minutes from here. Sonoma and Napa Wine Country are 30 minutes north. The beach is 40 minutes west. The giant redwood trees, Mount Tamalpais and soaring views of the ocean and San Francisco Bay Area are a stone's throw from here. We are also four hours from skiing in the Lake Tahoe area. Yosemite is four hours away as well. Three doors down from the house, a trailhead opens to miles of protected open space, with waterfalls, hiking and biking trails, meadows for picnics, and creeks for splashing around. Fairfax is a destination for mountain bikers and nature enthusiasts. Village life: we often make the 20 minute walk into Fairfax to see a movie or hear live music; eat in a cafe or drink beer at the brew pub; visit the bookstore or the clothing and jewelry shops.
