Our home

Our home is a characterful English dwelling, built fifteen years ago. It has a country cottage feel with plenty of space and light and we have recently created a large dining room/library. The kitchen has a French feel to it, with wooden cupboards and floors. There is a spacious hall and landing and the house is tastefully furnished throughout. The garden is private with French doors opening on to a grass garden, with lots of rambling roses and an old oak tree. Plenty of garden furniture to enjoy a tranquil evening or morning out in the quiet surrounds.

Property features

Who we are

  1. Retired Headmaster Norman and retired teacher Rosemary, husband and wife. We travel to Spain, from Exeter and spend a lot of time in France as the ferry ports are within an hour of Plymouth. Ferrys overnight to northern Spain and to Brittany in France. Norman collects books and we will leave a whole wall for you to study at your leisure. He also built a large dining table with our own oak, which seats 10 people. We are members of the local Bridge club.Daughter and husband residing in Brisbane. We would like to be near them - ie. 5 kms from the CBD, and to spend 2 or 3 months there so we can spend some time with them as well as explore some of Australia.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We are situated amongst a few farms and other old cottage /barn style housing in a little hamlet called Fluxton. There are friendly neighbours, and the River Otter is very close for walks. We love hearing the cockerel crowing and buying fresh eggs from the farm next door, as well as a stroll on the beach as the sun sets, whilst still being able to reach London in under 3 hrs. Ottery St Mary is the nearest small town and hosts the famous and ancient tar barrel races every 5th November. We are 10 minutes inland from the Regency seaside town of Sidmouth and the beautiful Jurassic coastline (now a world heritage site). The surrounding area is well serviced with quality shops and recreational facilities - there is plenty to do for all ages - from surfing in North Devon, to exploring the beautiful Devon countryside and beaches, sampling the cream teas or fish and chips! Exeter airport is 15 minutes away with European and Canadian air links. Rail links are 15 minutes away to London (2.5 hours), motorway 5 minutes. We are only 15 minutes from Exeter Cathedral city, with Roman city walls, university, theatre, cinemas, museums, shopping, nightlife, entertainments etc. Cornwall (the next county) is close for stunning coastline, surfing, mining history etc. There are at least four National Trust historical properties in the local area. One of the most desirable parts of England in which to live.
