Our home

Just 45 minutes from Ottawa, Canada's Capital city, our home is located in a beautiful natural environment. Perched on the slope of a mountain in the Gatineau Hills (a low-lying mountain range), our home overlooks a natural fresh water lake surrounded by forests and mountains. On the main level, the dining area and living area are open concept surrounded by large windows that open to the east and south. A large deck faces the east which is a wonderful spot to relax and take in the scenery. The walls of the living room are in pine as is the kitchen cabinetry. There are two bedrooms, one on the main floor and the other downstairs which has a walkout and a spectacular view of the lake. We have a neighbour on each side, and there are two houses on the other side but it is very private.

Who we are

  1. We are a couple in our early 50s, she English Canadian and he, French. We are involved in education, one primarily in language training and the other teaches science at the university of Quebec. We are an active couple who enjoy walking, trekking, photography. This summer, we hope to make an exchange with someone who lives in Portugal. We wouldlike to discover the real Portugal (by avoiding the tourist traps), feel its history and see its beautiful landscape.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our environment is nature. There are many trails all around our house, where you can hike and discover beautiful untouched lakes (no inhabitants). The government owns a great part of this area, which safeguards its natural beauty. We have our canoe at the foot of our lot, which we take out in the summer. One can also swim in the lake and some go fishing. It is really a paradise and we are still in love with the changing of the seasons. The stars at night are incredible and we often see deer, foxes, wild turkeys, and occasionally we have spotted moose. We are only 45 minutes to Ottawa, where there is a wealth of museums, galleries and festivals; 2.5 hours to Montreal, 4.5 hours to Quebec City, 6 hours to Toronto. The region itself is great to discover as it is full of rolling hills, vast expanses of forests, rivers and lakes.
