Who we are

  1. ABOUT US.
We are a retired couple with a daughter living in Sydney. She has just presented us with a new grandson (her second child), in addition to which she will be celebrating her own special birthday on May 12th. We intend to unite the family at this special time and plan to be in Sydney for at least six weeks during April and May, and maybe into June 2014. There is also a possibility that our son will want to join us in Oz. for a couple of weeks in May, so that ideally we are looking for a three-bedroom house, in the vicinity of Northbridge.

We bought ’Fairways’ in December 2010, and completely renovated the property before moving in six months later, since when improvements have been on-going.
We have both lived in the West Midlands all our lives, and it is doubtful that we would choose to move elsewhere although we have travelled widely overseas, and this will indeed be our fourth trip to Australia (and New Zealand).

We are family members of the National Trust.

    ABOUT YOU
Ideally we would like to swap with a family of similar profile to ourselves. Whether visiting the Wolverhampton area to be near U.K.family and/or friends; or for touring England with a main focus on the Midland counties, Wales, and the west. We would like a mutual swap of at least six weeks. Temporary membership of South Staffs.G.C. can be arranged.

    WHAT’S IN STORE
A detailed directory to places of special interest and local culture (e.g. Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, Birmingham Indoor Arena, NEC.etc), restaurants and pubs, as well as a wide range of recommended trips out and sporting activities, details of the best hyper-markets and local best bargain shopping, will be provided. Wide ranging styles of ethnic cuisine from Caribbean to Chinese/Thai, and in particular Indian Balti dishes are synonymous with the local gastro-culture.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Wolverhampton is about as near to the centre of England as you can get, at the heart of the motorway system, with direct rail links to all parts of the UK. Wales is within an easy one hour drive through the stunning county of Shropshire, with the beautiful Cambrian coast or the Snowdonia National Park, just one hour further on. The picturesque county-town of Shrewsbury is only half-an-hour away by car, or it can be easily accessed via our nearby local railway station in Codsall. London is a two hour trip from Wolverhampton’s mainline station with regular services all day every day.

Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick, Chester, Worcester, etc. are all within easy reach, as is the local historic market town of Bridgnorth with its magnificent Severn Valley Steam Railway.

‘Fairways’ is in the leafy residential suburb of Tettenhall about three miles north of the centre of Wolverhampton. It enjoys a wide choice of really nice local pubs and restaurants. The house is on a main bus route, and the train from Codsall will get you into Birmingham’s acclaimed shopping centre in under half-an-hour. Local shops are within easy walking distance.
