Our home

We live in a beautiful 4-bedroomed, 3-story house in Whitley Bay on the Northumberland Coast. It is 30 mins (by car) travelling to Newcastle-upon-Tyne which is the regional capital of the North East of England. The house has a light and airy feel throughout with stunning sea views from the front of the building. There are wooden floors throughout the house, which is very spacious with high ceilings and original features.

Who we are

  1. Hi, we're Mac and Shonadh and are young-ish professionals. We like travelling, exploring and experiencing what it's like to live in the counties we visit - we don't like being tourists! Home Exchange sounds interesting and exciting because it will allow us to live like locals. This is our first home exchange and we are looking to find someone who will look after our beautiful home as much as we will look after theirs.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Situated on a main coastal link between Tynemouth and the north Northumberland coast, Whitley Bay has a large expansive, sandy beach. The house overlooks the famous St Mary's Island Lighthouse which is accessible at low tide via a causeway. The town has transport links into Newcastle and there are a number of good, local restaurants. Within 30 miles of the house there are the World Heritage sites of Durham Cathedral and Hadrian's Wall which was the northern extent of the Roman Empire. Other locations of note are Alnwick Castle and Gardens (one of the locations where Harry Potter was filmed!), Bamburgh Castle, Warkworth Castle, Cragside House and Gardens plus various National Trust and English Heritage Houses. Also easily accessible are the dramatic and beautiful beaches of Northumberland plus Holy Island (Lindisfarne). Newcastle, a 30 mins drive away, originally a Roman settlement, is a vibrant, modern city centre with many fantastic bars and restaurants as well as a re-developed Quayside containing art galleries and museumes including The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage (across the river in Gateshead). We are 330 miles north of London. Edinburgh and Scotland are a couple of hours train ride north of Newcastle. York is an hour's train ride south of Newcastle. The Lake District is accessible by car and will take approximately 2 hours.
