Our home

Our home was built in 1887 and retains many of its original features. It is clean, comfortable and spacious, with gardens at the front and back and lovely sea views. It is situated in a very quiet cul de sac.

Who we are

  1. Dermott has recently retired from social work and Ann will be retiring from work in education in 2009. We have a son, daughter in law and grandson living in Calgary, with whom we would love to spend more time. Our daughter and other son and daughter in law live in Glasgow and would also be willing to offer an apartment to anyone who might wish to make this a two country visit. We have already had a wonderful exchange with a family in Vancouver and are keen to do more!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our home is a short walk from local shops and the Victorian promenade from where one can enjoy a lovely walk by the sea to the Blackhead lighthouse. It is just a few minutes' walk from the railway station, from which one can go to many destinations in Ireland, including Belfast and Dublin. We are a 15 minute drive from a 12th century castle in Carrickfergus and 75 minutes from the famous world heritage site of the Giants Causeway, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, Bushmills distillery(reputedly the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world)and the beautiful North coast of N.Ireland. Whitehead has a golf club (see www.whiteheadgolfclub.com), a municipal 9 hole golf course, all weather tennis courts and a children's play park. For more information about the area have a look at www.carrickfergus.org
