Our home

Our home:
Our home is a tastefully decorated Victorian terraced house with a pretty patio garden. Downstairs there is a light and airy open-plan living room and dining area and a well-equipped kitchen, which is where we have most of our family meals. Upstairs there are three bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with a single and a baby bed, and one with a single bed. There is one bathroom, with a Victorian roll-top bath, and a separate toilet. We have plenty of (girls’) toys which we’re happy for visiting children to play with.

Who we are

  1. About us:
We are Rachel (35) and Matt (43) and we have two daughters, Isobel (5) and Abigail (3). Matt has a PhD and is a research engineer for a specialist instrumentation company. His hobbies include windsurfing and sailing. Rachel is a homemaker and enjoys gardening, writing and watercolour painting. As a family we enjoy visiting gardens and museums, relaxing on the beach and going for walks. We have family in the Isle of Man and near Santa Cruz in the US, so any swaps in those areas would be great.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our neighbourhood:
Our house is in Balham, which is in South West London. It is in an ideal base for sightseeing, since it takes under ten minutes to walk to Balham’s rail station (which has both underground and overland trains), and then only 20 minutes direct to central London. We also have easy access to lovely places like Kew Gardens, Hampton Court Palace and Brighton.

Tooting Common is a couple of minutes’ walk away, and is a lovely place for a jog or a picnic or just a bit of greenery and fresh air after a day’s sightseeing. It also has an outdoor swimming pool (the lido), which is very popular in the summer. Balham town centre has a dozen fantastic restaurants plus a range of useful supermarkets and a couple of good deli’s. There is also a great comedy club at the local pub. For more info. see
