Our home

Our lovely family home is in central Twickenham, near Richmond and the river Thames, in leafy West London. This vibrant suburb of London is popular with families and the architecture is predominantly Victorian and Georgian semi-detached and terraced houses. Our clean and comfortable Victorian semi-detached house is in a quiet backwater of Twickenham, away from the hustle and bustle but with great restaurants, coffee shops, traditional English pubs and supermarkets all moments from the door. The house is on 3 floors and was built by the Victorians around 1855. Two years ago we hired a London architect practice to extend and refurbish our house, including excavating the basement to give us a large and luxurious kitchen/diner that leads onto a sunken terrace in the garden. We also have a spare double bedroom and en suite bathroom, plus another toilet and a utility room in the basement. On the ground floor are three reception rooms (one is used as a TV room, one is a reading room and the largest is a comfy open-plan sitting room with wood-burner and a huge picture window overlooking the garden). On the top floor there are 3 bedrooms, the master has a tiny en suite, and there's a family bathroom. The master bedroom has a Super King bed and our two other bedrooms on the top floor are used by our children and include bunk beds in one and an antique wooden single sleigh bed in the other. There are various options for additional toddler beds and cots, depending on your needs. It is important to note that, although our house has been beautifully designed and modernised, it has been done so within Victorian proportions. All the bedrooms are reasonable sizes, with best quality mattresses, duvets and sheets, but they are not huge rooms - the Victorians didn't build with penthouse or warehouse proportions in mind - two have original fireplaces. We have tried to tastefully modernise our home, with all mod cons - underfloor central heating, en suite power showers, utility room with two washing machines and dryer, two ovens, a warming drawer, boiling water tap, filter water tap, two dishwashers - but we have also tried to retain the character of this beautiful old house and you will find original cast iron radiators, original wooden flooring and staircases. Our large Victorian house offers you quality, deluxe living plus authentic charm and it was featured in Grand Designs magazine in July 2012 and won Grand Designs Best Extension Award 2013.
