Our home is a charming cottage, built around the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, with lots of character. It is on a quiet, very safe residential street in Twickenham. You can park on the street with a visitor’s permit, which we can provide. We know our neighbours well and they are very helpful, so should be able to answer any questions you might have.
Downstairs there is a spacious, homely living/dining room. It is a lovely place to spend time, light and airy in the summer but very cosy in the winter, with two working fireplaces. There is also a good-sized kitchen with an ample fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. We are keen cooks, so the kitchen is well-stocked with a range of ingredients and there are many cookbooks which you are welcome to use. Back doors from the living room open onto a lovely patio garden, perfect for barbeques or just outside dining in the summer.
Upstairs is a decent-sized double bedroom and a bathroom with a bath and excellently powerful shower. There is a second room, which we use as a spare bedroom/study, with a double bed, wardrobe and desk.
Although our home is not huge, we think it offers everything a single person, couple or small family needs and hope you will think so too!
We are Lula and Sam, Lula is a secondary school English teacher and Sam is a musician. Because of Lula's job, we are limited to exchanging in school holidays. We love going to places where we can enjoy parks/green spaces, music, good food, theatre, cinema and lots of exploring.
Twickenham is an excellent place to be with lots to do in the immediate vicinity, as well as easy access to central London. It feels like a village in the city, particularly as everyone is really friendly and there is a real sense of community.
Our street is only a few minutes' walk from the delightful Twickenham Green, where there are various pubs and cafes. In a 5 minute stroll from our house you get to Twickenham High Street, where there are lots more shops, cafes and restaurants. You can walk from our house to the river Thames in 10-15 minutes, where you can enjoy one of the riverside pubs, see a production at the small theatre, rent rowboats, walk along the towpath or get a tiny ferry across the river. Walking along the river to neighbouring Richmond is absolutely lovely, and there you can find cinemas and theatres as well as more shops and restaurants. Also in very easy walking distance are various interesting sights and historic houses, such as Kew Gardens, Marble Hill House, Ham House and Strawberry Hill House; Hampton Court Palace is a short drive or bus ride away. There are many huge parks in the area, particularly Bushy Park and Richmond Park, which are great places to go for a walk or a picnic; they are easily accessible by walking, bus or driving. We think the local area has a perfect combination of amenities, interesting cultural/social things to do and tranquil green space.
Twickenham train station is a 10-15 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride from our house and from there you can get trains into central London in twenty minutes. Alternatively you can get the tube from Richmond, or a bus. Both options give you easy access to all the theatres, museums, shops and other delights that London has to offer, but by being here you are not overwhelmed by the constant bustle of the city - perfect.
