Our home

Already have a swap in the UK for April 2012 and Vancouver, BC for June/July 2012. Open for short term swaps in England/Wales from 8th October 2012 to 1st December 2012.

Our house, built in the seventies in a “cottage style”, lies quietly within the Village Conservation Area opposite the Village Hall, a former Weslyan Chapel dating back to 1817. The house has 3 double bedrooms, 1 single and 2 bathrooms and is surrounded by a sunny, secluded, tree-lined garden bordered by a seasonal stream.

The spacious kitchen/breakfast room overlooks the garden and the lounge is dual aspect, whilst the formal dining room is located at the front of the house. We also have a study and separate utility area.

The kitchen and bathrooms were refurbed less than 10 years ago and we are reliably informed by friends that our kitchen is a lovely, happy place in which to spend time.

Driveway parking is available for four cars.

Property features

Who we are

  1. Pat is a retired Human Resources Consultant who still regularly plays tennis twice a week (in all weathers!), in addition to hiking, reading, playing Bridge and Book Clubbing. She more recently worked part-time as a Residential Lettings Administrator, so particularly understands the potential concerns of homeowners who open their doors to others.

Steve is a retired business consultant, an avid sailor, hiker, a great reader, Bridge and Chess player and a brilliant Dad to our two daughters. Having lived in a totally female family, he has had to acquire a great sense of humour and a tolerant attitude. He is the tidy one in the partnership and likes things "shipshape and Bristol fashion".

Our younger daughter moved to British Columbia in 2009 and now lives, works and plays in Downtown Vancouver. Our primary requirement is an exchange into central Vancouver in Summer 2012 so we can "live some of her dream". We are also open to other locations and timings.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Thruxton is a quintessentially English village (population Circa 650) with thatched cottages, village green, two pubs and a church dating back to the 13th century. We are ideally placed for visits to Stonehenge/Avebury Ring (15 and 30 minutes), the cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury (30 minutes), Oxford (an hour) or the Coast and New Forest (an hour). London is an hour and ten minutes by train from our local town, Andover (5 miles).

We have lived in Hampshire, a particularly beautiful part of the south of England, for nearly 30 years. The local River Test is regarded as one of the most famous fly fishing rivers in the world and the rolling green countryside is criss-crossed with endless walking trails.

For geologists, the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in Dorset is just over an hours drive away with its abundance of fossils. Alternatively, just enjoy the breathtaking views!

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and HMS Victory are also an hour's drive away.
