Our home

Our home, where we have enjoyed living for the past 16 years, is a 3 bedroom detached brick house, located in the quiet rural Leicestershire village of Thringstone, just 10 mins from the national motorway network.

On the ground floor we have a large cosy lounge (approx 6m x 3.5m), leading to a separate open plan dining room, with French doors opening onto a patio area. The dining area has an archway leading to the kitchen, with a built-in oven/hob, refrigerator and ample worktops/storage cabinets. Adjoining the kitchen area is a separate utility/laundry room with dishwasher, washing machine, freezer and microwave oven. A handy ground floor toilet completes the downstairs living area.

Upstairs we have 3 double bedrooms and bathroom. The main bedroom has a 'queen' bed, the 2nd a double bed and the 3rd a single bed with a further pullout. All bedrooms have ample wardrobe/drawer units. The bathroom has a shower bath with power shower, toilet and vanity unit.

There is also an Integral garage which we use as a storeroom and office, but we do have safe off-road parking for up to 4 vehicles. Incidently, we would certainly be interested in a car swap.

The house is fully insulated with gas central heating, easy to maintain and has recently been refurbished throughout.

Who we are

  1. We are Graham & Terri, both looking forward to full retirement next October (2012). Graham has spent the majority of his working life as an IT consultant, whist Terri has worked both in health care and practiced as a counselor. We have 2 daughters, the youngest is married living in Pukerua Bay (near Wellington) with her husband and young son. Having visited New Zealand twice in the past couple of years, we have fallen in love with the country and now wish to enjoy a longer period of time there. We would consider anywhere within a one hour drive of our daughter's home.(Esp. Areas along SH1 from Wellington to Otaki. Or within the Hutt Valley).

Your neighbourhood

Thringstone has a general store, post office, hairdressers and a popular traditional British fish and chip shop. There are 2 ‘contrasting’ pub/restaurants within 10/15 mins walk, one being of modern design, the other an Old Coaching Inn.

Local attractions include Staunton Harold Reservoir, Bradgate Park & Calke Abbey. Our nearby countryside offers easy walking terrain and a national cycle track passes through the village.

There are 2 large supermarkets nearby with the market town of Loughborough, a short distance away. Loughborough also has a fast main line railway links to both London and the north of England.

The Peak District National Park, Derbyshire Dales, Chatsworth House, Stratford-upon-Avon are just a few of the many attractions that can be easily visited, as can the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.

East Midlands Airport, from where numerous budget airlines operate, is only 8 miles away, making trips to other European countries feasible.
