Nov 2018 update: we are doing some building work until spring or early summer, so cannot exchange during this time.
This house comes with a personal story as well as lovely daylight, green views and modern comforts. It is located in the cosy Stroud Green area, a short walk from both the popular shops, cafes, restaurants and cinemas of Crouch End as well as the excellent transport links of Finsbury Park.
The house sits at one end of a quiet residential street, on a triangular plot of land that once served as stables and garages. In 2008, we replaced this with a two-storey timber building and separate guest/work studio, joined by a small yard. The main house has great views of (though no access to) a covered green reservoir as well as the mature trees of a former railway nature walk that stretches from Finsbury Park to Highgate Woods. This is a very popular recreational walk/run/cycle path and a nice alternative route to the station.
Please note that the accommodation is split into two smaller buildings, you can stay in one or both depending on requirements. The main house has a double bedroom, two small single bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor, with an upstairs open plan kitchen/living/dining room. There is a wood burning stove, induction hob, internet TV, wi-fi, bathtub and hi-fi system that you can plug your phone into. This is our main residence and for you to stay here we’d need to be away. The studio has a sleeping alcove with a double bed, a shower room and a living room with a kitchenette. We use this for projects and guests, so it is possible to organise a stay here for 1-2 people while we are at home. We don’t have a car but can arrange vouchers for on street guest parking if you let us know in advance. The yard has high walls on all sides which makes it very private, with good sun for coffee before lunch and also in the afternoon.
“We spend a great week in Maria and Luke's studio. We were happy to meet them and their kids, they are a lovely family. The place is really nice and peaceful, in a green area. We heard birds songs in the morning. We liked also the neighbourhood. And very easy to reach the centre of London. We are waiting now for them to come to Marseille !”
We are a couple with two boys, 8 and 14 years old.
We are both architects. Maria works with school design in the UK, mostly London, and Luke works with specialist glass installations all over the world.
Although we would love a longer break, our current circumstances are better set up for a long weekend or week in the UK or Europe. We get excited about interesting cities and architecture, the sea and the mountains, including skiing (Nordic and Alpine). Having said that, please feel free to write to us from anywhere, we are open to suggestion.

London is really a patchwork of villages, and this is a perfect location for local London "village life" only 15 minutes' walk from Finsbury Park Station, with central London a 15 minute tube ride away. The area is very attractive with a nice mix of green spaces, quiet streets and lively places to eat and drink and shop, both in Crouch End and along Stroud Green Road - including the old and noisy Rowan's bowling! There are two cinemas and a local theatre, and several really good restaurants.
