Our home

Our house is a typical 1930s terrace house which has been extended and modernised recently to provide a lounge and large dining kitchen downstairs, a large ensuite bedroom with queen bed and a single bedded room plus an office and a bathroom. It is fully double glazed and centrally heated. There are small front and rear gardens and off street parking.

Who we are

  1. We are Ian & Maureen. We are both retired, in our late 60’s and have visited Australia, on holiday, seven times, including a 2 month swap in 2008. We would hope to repeat this experience but not in 2009 as we are fully committed this year. We do have a married son who lives in Canberra and our holidays have allowed us to see all of the major Australian cities. In Australia we are now only really interested in NSW, South of Sydney and ideally on the coast. We are still interested in short UK exchanges particularly to Cathedral cities in the North of England or Edinburgh. We are also willing to swap to Paris. We are now fully committed for 2009.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our home is in the old Roman City of St Albans with its 12th Century Cathedral, just 20 miles from central London and close to the motorway system. We are a 20 minute or less walk from the town centre and all facilities including the railway station. The main line gives direct access to Luton & Gatwick airports and the new Central London St Pancras terminal for Eurostar trains is only an 18 minute train journey away, and Paris just a couple of hours further. This is therefore an ideal base for touring England or the continent. St Albans is a pleasant market town with much historical interest, parks and a leisure centre. There is a corner shop, and a bus stop with frequent services to town, at the end of our street.
