Our cottage is located in the idyllic village of Slad, near Stroud (in the Cotswolds). The cottage is eighteenth century and was the childhood home of the poet Laurie Lee. His book about growing up in this house, Cider with Rosie (called edge of day in USA), has sold over six million copies. Two feature films also exist.
We own the half his family (all 9 of them!) used to live in - note that an elderly lady lives in the other half. Our home has four levels - cellar, ground floor kitchen and living room, first floor master bedroom and bathroom (with power shower) and second floor two bedrooms. There is also the old scullery attached to the house - nowadays little more than a store room.
Outside is a large, vertiginous garden of 1/2 an acre. We have ducks and two ponies (although they would probably go on holiday during a swap) and we have a productive garden with fruit trees, bushes, vegetables everywhere. There is also a wooden climbing frame that our two boys love. Our neighbours are friendly and happy to help out
We are a family of four with two young boys (2 and 4). I work for a large healthcare company while my wife is a sports masseur.
We love being outdoors riding, walking or biking. In April 2014 we really enjoyed our first house exchange in California
A couple of hundred metres away is the church and the village pub, the Woolpack, which is the hub of the village. A 5 minute drive away is the town of Stroud (inc train station) with shops and a fantastic Saturday farmer's market
Within 30 minutes drive are the towns of Cheltenham and Gloucester and a bit further still are towns like Bath and Bristol. Even London is only a 1:30 train journey away
But closer are the hundreds of small Cotswold villages in the valleys.
