Our home

Our home is well presented, welcoming, and very comfortable. We have a traditional English garden ideal for relaxing in with lawns, mature trees and shrubs. All rooms have lots of windows so are bright and cheery. Hardwood floors and rugs give the downstairs rooms a very traditional feel, whilst both bedrooms are carpeted for extra comfort. The ground floor master bedroom has a king-size bed and fitted wardrobes. The large bedroom on the first floor has a double bed (plus a great view). Our comfortable lounge is a super place for relaxing after a day walking or exploring, and when the evening is chilly curl up in front of the gas fire to read, listen to music, or watch a film. Enjoy your meals in our sunny dining room which overlooks the rear garden. Our recently refurbished bathroom is bright and airy with a full-size bath and walk-in shower. Our traditional kitchen is a great place for watching birds in the garden whilst preparing meals. We love our home and village, we feel that anyone who likes walking, nature, and great scenery would love it too.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are both in our early 60's and are happily enjoying our retirement. In a former life Peter was a Director in the NHS, and he is an avid cricket fan (Lancashire County Cricket Club), he supports Lancaster City Football Club, is a keen bowler (Crown Green Bowls), and enjoys playing badminton.
We share a love of music, theatre, the cinema and food! I am a member of 'Paddlers For Life' - a 'breast cancer' dragonboat team and we paddle on nearby Lake Windermere every Sunday in the spring/summer.
We both enjoy 'walking' and making the most of living on the coast in such great surroundings. Since I retired (nurse then Social Worker) I have taken up painting and belong to the Silverdale Art Group.

We completed a successful home exchange in 2011 (in Canada). We would appreciate your home and look after it as if it were our own.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our traditional rancher/detached bungalow is set in a quiet cul-de-sac, in the picturesque coastal village of Silverdale, an area of outstanding natural beauty (Arnside and Silverdale AONB). Walking from our door there are many walks/trails both through woodland and on coastal footpaths which are ideal for discovering this beautiful area with limestone cliffs and pavements. We feel very privileged to live in such an attractive and unspoilt part of the country.
Silverdale is a traditional English village, situated by the sea, with the Lake District, and many other attractions close by. Anyone who likes nature, birdwatching, walking etc. cannot help but appreciate the area. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Leighton Moss is a 15 minute walk where you can try and catch a glimpse of the 'elusive' Bittern!
We have a cricket club, bowling green, golf course, indoor swimming pool, 3 traditional English pubs, and several excellent tea-shops in the village. Our village shops can supply all your needs, and we also have 2 larger supermarkets just 10kms away.
The historic university city of Lancaster and the lovely market town of Kendal are half an hour away by car, and both Lancashire and Cumbria have many fine historic homes/gardens nearby which are worth visiting.
We are ideally suited for visiting the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland. We are just over an hour away from both Manchester and Liverpool, whilst York, Chester, Glasgow and Edinburgh are also easily accessible. The Railway Station in the village links to the West Coast Mainline, so trains to all major cities (including Birmingham and London) can be accessed easily. We are happy to recommend places to visit in the area, also see www.golakes.co.uk and www.thenationaltrust.org.uk
