Our home

Our family home is located in a private road, overlooking allotment gardens in the village of Riverhead a mile from the centre of Sevenoaks town. It is an extended cottage with a large open-plan living space with a wood-burning stove, a country style kitchen that overlooks the front, downstairs cloakroom while upstairs has 3 bedrooms, study and a family bathroom. The house has a large library of books, a piano, wooden floors, squashy sofas, Turkish rugs, lots of childrens games, good DVD collection, sound system with an wide-range of CD's, large TV, with the usual computer games (Wii) - and two cats! From the French windows,a decked area leads onto a large lawn, with Playhouse and swing and a big Trampoline! Our taste is eclectic, with a range of antique furniture, art-works and ceramics lending the property a quirky, artistic feel.

Who we are

  1. Both Ian and Alexandra work in professional theatre. Ian is an actor, currently working in the West End. Alex worked as the Resident Director on The Lion King in London for 3 years. They tend a large plot of land in front of their house and grow most of their own vegetables. We enjoy travelling and exploring new places: Alex is keen to re-visit The United States where she spent some years as a small child. We enjoy socialising and can recommend some great places to eat and drink both in Sevenoaks and London. Both our children, Lotte 12, and Joel 8, are curious about how exchanging homes works but are excited by the prospect!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We really feel we live in the best of both worlds! We have the beautiful Kent countryside on our door-step, the market-town of Sevenoaks just over a mile away - with its great range of restaurants - and the city of London a 30 minute train journey away. We live on the edge of the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, so have a large lake and woodland to walk around that is 4 minutes from our front door. Within a 30 minute drive are a number of wonderful historic buildings: Knole House, an Elizabethan Manor House with it's 1000acre deer-park, is in Sevenoaks itself; Igtham Mote, a 13th century moated Manor House, Penshurst Place, with its stunning Elizabethan gardens, Hever Castle, the childhood home of Ann Boleyn, Leeds Castle, built for Edward 1, and Chartwell, the home of Winston Churchill are all well worth a visit. The train journey to London is the best way to arrive into the capital. It passes many landmarks - the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament before crossing the River Thames. Trains from Kent arrive into London Charing Cross Station. From here it is a mere 10 minute walk into Covent Garden, Soho and Theatre-Land - so it's easy to catch a West End Show.
