Our home

Our home is a lovely 18th Century farmhouse.

It dates from 1730 and has lots of character features, oak beams and fireplaces. The heart of our home is the kitchen with an Aga style cooking range which gives a comforting background heat all year. We have a light and spacious dining room with open log fire and French windows which overlook the garden. Our study/snug has comfortable armchairs, an interesting selection of old books and desk and bureau with internet access. Beyond the kitchen is the pantry and keeping cellar, a laundry room with washing machine and dryer and toilet with wash hand basin. The sitting room is light and spacious with a fireplace, comfortable chairs and sofa and a flat screen digital television with DVD player. There are French windows leading to the garden terrace.

Upstairs on the first floor are the Master bedroom with adjoining dressing room and ensuite, and a large double bedroom with separate house bathroom. A second staricase leads to the attic bedrooms, both doubles with ensuites.

Our garden extends to approximately one acre and has a large terrace with garden furniture and a summerhouse from where you can enjoy a cup of coffee overlooking the garden. The garden backs onto open fields which are sometimes home to horses, sheep or cows. The house stands on a quiet street in the heart of the village and there are pleasant country walks from the front door.

Who we are

  1. We are Paul and Juliet, both in our late fifties and retired. Paul was a Sales Director for a large food company.

We have lived here for the past 25 years and it has been a comfortable and happy family home. Our son and daughter in law are now living in Brisbane in the suburb of Ashgrove and so we would ideally like to exhange with someone in this area or other nearby suburb.

We have good friends and neighbours in the village who would love to meet you and your family.

Your neighbourhood

The neighbourhood is in an attractive conservation village with a Norman church and many character houses, surrounded by fields and fruit orchards.

There are two excellent country pubs both with restaurants, a village butcher, general store, hairdressers and post office all within easy walking distance. The village whilst quiet and peaceful is in a very central location for travelling to all parts of Britain via major motorway routes which are close by.

The Georgian market town of East Retford is a ten minute drive and has a fast train service south to London of 1.20 hours and north to Edinburgh approximately 2.5 hours.

The ancient town of Newark on Trent is a 20 minute drive. There are many good restaurants, antique shops, Castle, Museum and boat trips along the river.

The City of Lincoln is a pleasant 30 minute drive and offers good shopping, Lincoln Castle and the magnificent Cathedral at the top of the famous cobbled Steep Hill. Clumber Park on the edge of Sherwood Forest has a beautiful lake, country walks, cycle paths and picnic areas.

Further afield is the City of Nottingham with galleries, museums, theatres and Castle. Chatsworth House, the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is one of Englands's finest stately homes and is situated in the Peak District just over an hour's drive away.

A stay in our home would we feel be an enjoyable experience and enable you to explore this country's many fascinating attractions.
