We live in a lovely, light warm Victorian house with lots of old features but with all the mod cons and recently renovated. Spaced over three floors, there is a large modern open plan kitchen which looks onto the garden. It's a very social kitchen and the hub of the house with a large oak table that can sit up to 12 people. There is a washing machine (dryer in the basement), dish washer, microwave, beautiful American fridge freezer, nespresso machine, etc. The kitchen opens up into a double living room where the kids play but also where we relax and watch tv and dvds (cable, dvd player which accepts American dvds, Wii). There is a working fireplace which is in constant use during the winter (and sometimes during the summer too!) There is a lovely garden which blossoms in summer where there is a barbeque, large trampoline with a net, garden shed, bikes, and big table on the patio which sits 10. There is a small loo on the ground floor.

On the first floor (second floor in the States), there is a very large master bedroom with super king bed next to a very large master bathroom with wet room shower and bath. There is a spare bedroom with a queen bed and a second bathroom next to it with a shower. On the top floor, there are Chloe and Jack's rooms with single beds in each but with a trundle bed under Jack so that can serve as a double bed too. There is a large play room on the third floor too with TV, dvd and computer. There is a sofa bed in the playroom which can sleep two if need be. There is a small loo on this floor as well.

Who we are

  1. Jason, Sophie, Chloe and Jack Bartholomew - Jason is american born and bred and lived for the last 15 years in New York City, in Manhattan and then Brooklyn. Jason is a Publishing Director at Hodder & Stoughton and worked for years at Little Brown in New York. Sophie worked at the UN and various NGOs working on emergencies prior to having children. She is now retraining as a pre-natal teacher. Chloe is 5 years old and was born in New York City despite her English accent! She loves pretty much everything. Jack is 3 and as long as he has his hippo, is also pretty easy going. Jason and I lived in Brooklyn Heights and then Dumbo for 5 years together where we had Chloe and absolutely loved it. We moved back to London, to be near my family, but miss Brooklyn hugely so would love to spend some more time there seeing all our friends and giving the kids some insight into New York life.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Putney is an affluent area by the River Thames in South West London. It benefits from a busy high street with all the shops you would need (including choice of every UK supermarket, Waitrose, Marks and Spencers, Tesco and Sainsburys) but is also a very green leafy area with Putney Common, Wandsworth Park, the embankment and tow paths along the River, Barnes Common and the historic and stunning Richmond Park all on its doorstep as well as endless playgrounds for young children. It is also 5 minutes from quaint Barnes village, 10 minutes on the bus from upscale Chelsea, 7 minutes on the train from Richmond, and then 20 minutes to central London, to Waterloo Station. Our house is on a quiet street off Putney High Street, and is a 4 minute walk to the overland train station and a 10 minute walk to the tube station. There are many restaurants in Putney - range from very upscale to cheap and cheery. It is a great spot to explore London from and no need for a car with the great travel links.
