Who we are

  1. We are both teachers in local schools and have 2 children, a son aged 17 and a daughter aged 20. They are well behaved and well travelled, and would look after your house very well. We enjoy the outdoors and watersports. We like walking, eating out, swimming and the beach. Our children are active, into sport and are well behaved and respectful. We have a variety of toys for all ages and can leave a cot if required. We have a selection of bikes for you to use as well as a two person kayak. We are both non smokers. We have successfully completed three house swaps through this website, swaps to Australia in Summer 2007 and our second swap to Australia in 2011 and California in Summer 2013 - and loved it.
We would consider a car swap if required.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We have comfortable and large modern family house with pretty garden in Plymouth on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. The River Dart country park is great for kids. There are lots of beautiful countryside walks and riverside walks accessible from the house and it is only 15 mins drive to a variety of safe sandy beaches including Bigbury Bay with the famous Burgh Island hotel, Mothecombe, Bantham and Wembury. Horse-riding in Dartmoor National Park is available from a stables in nearby village (5 mins away). It is a 10 mins drive to lots of activities including Mountbatten watersports centre (sailing, diving, water ski-ing, stand up paddleboarding, windsurfing, kayaking), lots of local golf clubs, John Nike dry ski slope, Vue multiplex cinema, Drake's Circus modern shopping centre, lots of local health clubs that you can buy 1 day membership for, and 5 mins from the ferry terminal that leaves for France or Spain if you would like to explore further afield. This is a great location, walking distance to restaurants and pubs for the evening. The Hyde Park public house is close and a very popular lace with locals. In the day you have a huge variety of local natural environments to explore as well as the cities of Plymouth and Exeter.
We are on the edge of Dartmoor National Park that is one of the most unspoilt natural areas in the UK. The house location has the best of both worlds being near countryside but having the convenience of local shops. There is a friendly and neighbourly local community, come and see the real England! The countryside of Devon and Cornwall is easy to explore from this location and it is a 3 hour drive to London.
There is lots to do in this area with a beach for every day of the year, including visiting the Eden Project that is about 1 hour drive away and relaxing in the pretty towns and villages of Devon and Cornwall. Lots of watersports activities are possible including surfing, sailing, kayaking and fishing (sea, river and lake).
The Tate Gallery has a fantastic Gallery in St Ives, Cornwall and London is only a 3 hour drive, or Bristol 1.5 hours if you would like a few days in a larger city, Bath is a 2 hour drive and has stunning architecture to explore.
Plymouth has a wide variety of shops, restaurants, art galleries and leisure facilities. We will leave a folder of info for you.
Getting here is easy as there is a main line train station in Plymouth that links to the National Rail network. There are also good coach and bus services from Plymouth to London or Bristol that connect with International Flights. The nearest Airport is Exeter or Newquay but easy to connect by Public Transport to Bristol or London. Plymouth is also a ferry port with ferries to both France and Spain.

We are a family of four with two grown up children 17 and 21. The children may not travel with us. We are looking for summer 2018 East Coast USA or France and Summer 2019 - open to offers. Also interested in Christmas 2018 and Easter 2019
