Our home

We have lived in our lovely 1920s house close to the center of Oxford for 39 years and have constantly been developing and improving it. We have recently renovated our loft room to create a peaceful ensuite bedroom with views towards Oxford and over local countryside. All four bedrooms will all sleep 2 people and the family bathroom was also renovated only 3 years ago. We have an open gas fire in the front room fireplace which gives instant extra warmth and a lovely ambiance. The kitchen was updated 2 years ago and is next to the dining room. This a a great space to enjoy food, and company and during the morning the sunlight which streams in. The garden is pretty and sheltered. There are two doors from the back room and the dining room leading to the terrace which has small pond where our local frogs live
We are happy to swap our car which lives on the street outside the house with residence parking and next to the house is a workshop where I work as an upholsterer. There would be space here for storage if needed
We have a shed in the garden where we keep the bikes and there is a ladies and mans bike for you to use whenever you would like. Unfortunately we don't have children's bikes but they can be hired locally.

Who we are

  1. We are Jan and Ian Donley, a couple in our late 60's/with two grown up daughters and four grandchildren. We have house swapped very successfully 3 times and also rented our house out for a year. This is so we can spend time in Australia with our elder daughter, Polly, and her two children. They live in Bilambil Heights near Tweed Heads NSW. It is such a beautiful area where we now feel very much at home
Jan is a semi retired upholsterer with a workshop next to the house but mostly concentrates on teaching upholstery now while Ian is completely retired and looks after the house. We are both clean and tidy and would look after your home as if it were our own.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live on a short quiet side street - about 150m - off the main Botley road leading into Oxford from the west. The other end of the road is a playing field. The field opens into countryside where there are many country walks to choose from. Including walking along the River Thames towpath.
Walking for 15/20 minutes along the road will get you the the centre of Oxford but more pleasant is the 20/25 minutes walk along the river. Oxford is famous for its historic colleges and building and we also have several museums and art galleries including the famous Ashmolean. Oxford has two theatres, lots of restaurants and good shopping as well as several classical concerts each week often in the college buildings and good live music in local pubs.
When you want to go further afield the train station is just 10 minutes walk toward town with frequent trains to London (55 minutes) and of course many other destinations. There are also buses to London leaving every 10 minutes and running through the night if you get into London night life.
There are many other places to visit including Blenheim Palace and it's pretty village of Woodstock - just 20 minutes drive away, Windsor Castle is about an hour away by car or train, Bath with the famous Roman Baths is also just over an hour away again by car or train and the beautiful Cotswold with lovely walk, pretty villages and cosy county pubs is a short drive away.
Our street is full of friendly neighbours and friends who will be happy to show you routes to walk and cycle and answer and question.
