Our home

Our cottage was build in 1850 . It was originally a terrace, but over the years was knocked into one, extended., and updated, with all mod cons. It is one of the oldest homes in the immediate area. Our garden is mostly laid to lawn, with decking and pergola one end facing south, a great place to sit and read. We also have a paved BBQ area leading off from the drawing room, which gets the sun all afternoon. A great place to have lunch with friends in the summer.

Property features

Who we are

  1. Andrew and I consider ourselves young at heart 60 somethings. We have a lively social life, love entertaining, going to the theatre, cooking, and playing an occasional game of golf. I go to keep fit twice a week, and love to read. Andrew works in the garden. Between us we have 5 children, none of which live at home, and two grandchildren. Andrew is English, and I am Australian, and as a consequence of that, we make frequent trips to Sydney to visit all my family, as I am the only one over here. We have never done a house swap before. We are both very tidy, and house proud, also non smokers.

Your neighbourhood

Our cottage is situated in the lovely village of Highclere. We have Highclere Castle, better known as Downton Abbey in the TV series of the same name, is within walking distance. Many pubs/gastro pubs are nearby, and some within walking. Our closest town is Newbury, with it's racecourse, 5 golf clubs, many restaurants, clubs, fashion shops, and cinema, is a 10 minute drive away. If you enjoy walking there are many footpaths right on your doorsteps, and lovely walks along the Kennet and Avon Canal. Newbury is also central to many well known places of interest. We are an hour away from the beautiful Georgian City of Bath, The Cotswolds, Oxford, London, and Stonehenge.
