Our home

5 bed house in the heart of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. The house sits in the middle of its own land of 22 acres. We only purchased the house recently (September 2011) and the previous owners had not updated the house since they bought it in the mid 90's. So, if you are looking for lovely new fittings, brand new carpets, and all the latest mod-cons, then this is not the house for you. However, if you're looking for location, stunning views, beautiful country walks, a fireplace to toast marshmallows and drink port around, then this should be ideal, as the Cotswolds are a truly magical part of England. I have not taken any internal photos (bad light for blackberry camera) but can email a copy of the agent's sales brochure where there are some internal photos, albeit with the previous owner's furniture. One other thing - we don't have a TV. We have broadband so you can watch stuff online, but a year ago we decided to get rid of the TV, so if that's a necessity for you, I'm afraid we don't have one.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are a family of 6: 2 adults and 4 kids (aged 2,5,7,17). I am a Brit and my wife is from Texas, where the majority of her family still live. We met at Grad school in New York. We are extremely respectful of other people's property/stuff and would obviously expect the same from people staying at our house.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is on the edge of the village of Box, which is a beautiful traditional Cotswold village (lots of old houses all on top of each other, with funny little lanes and paths connecting them). There is a great pub (the halfway house) in the village which is only 5 minutes walk from the house. Nailsworth, the nearest town, is less than 1 mile away. Nailsworth is a bustling, traditional Cotswold market town with a range of independently owned shops (notably Williams Kitchen - a famous deli, and Hobbs - a well-known bakery/coffee shop), as well as a farmers market offering local produce every Saturday. Other famous Cotswold towns within 20 minutes drive are Tetbury and Cirencester (the 2nd largest city in England in Roman times), within 45 minutes drive are Bath (also famous for its Roman origins, particularly the baths!), Bristol and Cheltenham, and then an hour or so are Oxford and Stratford (where Shakespeare came from). There is a regular train service to London Paddington (where the bear came from) which takes 1 hr 15 minutes from nearby Kemble station. There are plenty of other local attractions, which I can provide separately if of interest.
