Our home

Our home is very charming and has many original features such as large stone fireplaces and beams. It is not large but has everything you could possibly need and is very comfortable. We have a large terraced garden which includes an area of wild woodland with many birds and a badger set. There is also a small deck.

Who we are

  1. We are two college teachers nearing early retirement in July 2006. We are going to visit our daughter in Vancouver in August and September and are looking to arrange an exchange, partly to give us a bit more space and flexibility (we will have a friend with us for the first 3 weeks) and partly so that there is somebody here who can feed our little old cat. Chris is an art teacher and painter/musician and Hilary is a performing arts teacher. We both enjoy the theatre, music, walking, reading and good food. We have another beautiful house in the Lot Valley in France which could easily be included in any exchange.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The cottage is located in a lively village on the edge of the Peak District National Park. There is plenty of opportunity for long country walks ending at one of the many local pubs where you can get good home-style cooked food. We have two excellent pubs actually in the village. The nearest town, Matlock, is a 5 minute drive away (there is a bus or you can walk over Masson Hill)and there you can find most of the amenities you need. Matlock Bath is a local tourist spot and nearby there are many areas of historical interest - Cromford, the site of Arkwright's first mill during the industrial revolution, has just been designated as a world heritage site. There are several large cities within easy reach - Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby - and good access for trains to London.
