Our home

Lodge Barn is on my father's farm where strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and runner beans are grown. We finished converting the barn in early 2018. It has a very spacious open plan living area with a large kitchen and a mezzanine upstairs. The bedrooms are on the ground floor in what used to be the old tractor shed. The master bedroom has a king size bed, an en suite with a large shower and a dressing room. The second bedroom has a double bed and currently, the third bedroom has a cot. We have two single fold out beds which we use on the floor in the mezzanine if we need space for extra guests. There is underfloor heating throughout.
Unfortunately, we have not managed to sow the grass seed in the garden yet because it has been too wet so the 'garden' is still a work in progress. There is off-street parking in the farm yard which is right outside the front door. We have 2 adult bikes which you are welcome to use.

Who we are

  1. Mark and I are in our late 30s and we have a son who is 6 and a 4 year old daughter. Mark is a History teacher at a local secondary school and I recently left teaching to be a full time mum. We love to travel and we have done several great exchanges so far. As Mark is a teacher, we are tied down to school holidays but we are potentially able to offer non-simultaneous exchanges if you wish to visit in our school term times.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Lodge Barn is in the old farm yard of my father's small 40 acre farm. He bought it in 1986 and has grown predominantly soft fruit and vegetables here ever since. There is also a holiday let in the former tractor shed in the old farm yard which will open for business in June 2018. The barn itself sits opposite a 13th century flint chapel and is surrounded by fields within the quiet, small village of Lindsey. It is a 2 minute drive/ 10 minute cycle ride/ half an hour walk to the local pub. The pub does great food at reasonable prices and has a fantastic beer garden with a small climbing frame, slide and sand pit to entertain kids.
The nearby villages of Kersey and Lavenham were thriving wool trading hubs in the 15th and 16th centuries and they boast beautiful beamed houses of all colours. If you like walking or cycling then there are lots of beautiful trails which you can take, with many taking you via some of the area's country pubs. The barn is right on the Suffolk Way which is a well known cycle route. Even though it sits in a rural location, the house is only a 10 minute drive from Hadleigh, a quaint market town which has everything you need.
Essex university and Colchester English Study centre are about 30 minutes by car.

Interesting places to visit are:
*Lavenham for beautiful Tudor houses, some great places to eat
*Dedham and Flatford where you can walk or row along the river
*Aldeburgh, a seaside town with great fish and chips
*Framlingham with its castle which has a brilliant slide for kids
*Cambridge (1 hour)
*Long Melford for antiques and Kentwell Hall
*London is 1 hour on the train from the nearest station.
