Our home

Arranged over three floors, this stunning two bedroomed house enjoys exceptionally well presented interiors which are tranquilly located on a sleepy "no through road" in Stoke Newington, London N16. The property comprises reception room which opens onto the garden and is bathed in natural light, dining room with bay window, modern open-plan kitchen with stylish concrete worktop, utility room, study, two bedrooms (one currently used as gym/pilates studio), contemporary bathroom and delightful decked garden. The main bedroom features a 2m super-king bed with a sublimely comfortable Tempur mattress and pillows. There is also a small but comfortable (Muji) double sofabed in the (window-less) basement room, hence the house is really best suited for a couple or perhaps just one more. The house is on a residential street just 5 minutes from Clissold Park (with paddling pool, menagerie and café) and two minutes from Church Street with an array of delis, restaurants, bars and funky boutiques.

Who we are

  1. We are Julia and Carl (45 and 53) and we run a Pilates studio and business in the City of London. Having recently acquired Toffee, a gorgeous and very well-behaved Shih Tzu, the three of us are keen to visit pleasant locations in the UK and Northern France where we can enjoy country and/or seaside walks and that are close to really good restaurants (we don't mean fancy or Michelin-starred but wholesome and welcoming). We are also seeking exchange with someone in Rio, Brazil for a conference we are attending in October 2009 (without Toffee alas).

Your neighbourhood

Stoke Newington is often cited as one of London's few remaining ?villlages' in that it has somehow managed to retain a distinctive atmosphere that is unusual in London these days. Where we live is quiet with friendly neighbours and yet has a diverse array of nightlife on our doorstep. Stoke Newington is an area of London about 5km north of the City and West End. It still retains an individual and slightly alternative character of its own. Its a great base from which to explore London and a place to spend some time in in its own right. "Best place in the UK to be a parent" (Observer Magazine London, November 2004). "Stoke Newington is a medieval village that, while now swallowed up by the British capital, has never truly become a part of it. One of the most culturally diverse parts of London, Stoke Newington is today a great place to eat, drink and shop as well as being an excellent detour from the beaten tourist track." (Lonely Planet Guide to London 2006). King's Cross, Victoria, Waterloo and London Bridge can all be reached by bus and Stoke Newington station takes you to the City in 15 minutes. Islington, Finsbury Park and Shoreditch can all be reached in 10-15 minutes. There is also a state-of-the art gym with pool and cinema nearby. We can supply visitor parking permits if you bring your car.
