Our home

Our Art Deco apartment was built in 1930 and is beautifully decorated and furnished. It is set in lovely private gardens directly opposite a large park. There is a double bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, a big study and a large living area with a balcony and an open fireplace. It is fully centrally heated and very comfortable. We have a resident caretaker, an entry phone system and excellent neighbours. We find it a quiet and peaceful setting and love living here. We also have a cottage in Suffolk near Southwold by the sea, this has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a sitting room, a very large open plan kitchen diner and a garden. We would be happy to let any exchangers have the use of this as well as the London apartment.

Who we are

  1. We are now both retired, Jim was a London Schools Inspector and educational consultant and I was a senior manager in the local college. Both of us started as teachers and researchers.

We have 3 daughters, one who is adopted, and three grandchildren and have lived in this part of London for over 40 years. Our youngest daughter is currently living in Fairlight with her family which is why we want to stay near there. We both love travelling, bird watching, local history, walking, swimming (especially in the sea) going to exhibitions, films, museums and the theatre. We are used to home exchanges and have very helpful neighbours who will help any exchangers settle in.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our Stoke Newington area is bustling, exciting and many artists and musicians live here. We are within 10 minutes walk of a Tube station and are 3 mintues away from a good selection of buses. Galleries, museums, theatres, cinemas, Oxford St, Covent Garden, Soho and the central London parks are 30 minutes away. Locally there are 2 art cinemas, a host of independent retail shops, historic churches and art venues. Within 10 minutes walking distance we have Indian, Spanish, Turkish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Thai restaurants as well as several gastro pubs. There is a large leisure centre in the park 5 minutes away with swimming pools, gyms, squash, badminton and table tennis courts. A local former reservoir 5 minutes away is now a sailing venue next to a former Victorian water tower which is now an indoor climbing centre.

Our Victorian country cottage is very rural and is ideally suited for bird watching, walks and local blue flag beaches. The area is well known for its wonderful locally brewed ale and the pubs that also serve good local food, particularly fish. There are lovely historic little town and villages nearby.
