Our home

Beautiful, bright, third (top) floor Edwardian apartment on the river Thames in fashionable Barnes (see website http://www.barnesvillage.com/barnes-photos/barnes-photo-gallery.html ) just across the river from Hammersmith. Quiet, sunny, very peaceful location overlooking river and large communal gardens and the Thames towpath (river walkway), yet minutes' walk from buses and tubes (4 lines) to central London, Richmond Park. ( https://www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/richmond-park), Kew Gardens, Kensington,Hyde Park and Chiswick. 15 minutes by tube to Covent Garden/Piccadilly Circus etc, 10 minutes by bus to trendy shopping in Kensington High Street and to the massive Westfield shopping centre. Very comfortable furnishings, totally modernised with all conveniences. (see all photos below, with views of interior and environs).

No lift, so you need to be reasonably fit for three floor climb (apartment best suited to fit adults) - but the views are worth it. Bikes available for cycling the towpath to Kew Gardens, Richmond, Hampton Court almost without using or crossing any roads.

We also have a 200 year old stone-built 3 bedroom cottage with a sitting and dining room, 2 bathrooms, wooden beams, both fireplace and woodburner but all modern conveniences, in the Cotswolds. It is set in a picturesque and peaceful village with an 11th century church and near to many country pubs and a pretty old market town, Northleach. Wonderful walking and biking countryside - bikes also available here. We are happy to exchange this property if preferred (last photos are of this, see below and clearly labelled) For additional photos of the area see: www.cotswolds.info/cotswold-pictures.htm or look at Google images - Cotswolds

Who we are

  1. Recently retired couple- ex lawyer and physiotherapist- with 2 married children and five grandchildren, travelling alone or occasionally wishing to travel with 2 friends, (also in their 60s or early 70s) or, on occasions when agreed, some of our family. All very quiet, non smoking, respectful house guests and very experienced exchangers.

We have already done over 50+ very happy and successful exchanges in the UK, Europe and internationally. It is a most wonderful way to see the world and feel you are living like a local. We have been treated with nothing but generosity and our own houses have always been very well cared for on our return. We have been fortunate, too, to make some delightful acquaintances along the way.

We would prefer to offer our places to 2 (maximum 4) adults who are quiet, careful guests and definitely NON SMOKERS please. Occasional well behaved children may be acceptable but in the London apartment we do live above and next door to other apartments, with quiet adults living in them, so noisy babies and children could cause problems for us and our good neighbourly relations! The stairs would be a problem for people with physical limitations or for families with small children. In the Cotswolds the village is very peaceful- probably too quiet for children used to the entertainment of city life, but fine for older children who enjoy cycling, walking and exploring.

We are both originally New Zealanders who have lived in London for over 48 years, are still thrilled by it as a city but also like to get away to our cottage 90 minutes away in the Cotswolds. We are happy to exchange this if preferred. We love living so near mainland Europe and all it has to offer and look forward to many more exciting exchanges.

Peaceful location on the Thames very close to Central London, with many riverside pubs and restaurants nearby. Lively cosmopolitan Hammersmith a few minutes walk across the river; peaceful, pretty Barnes Village with its picturesque pond only 10 minutes in the other direction, and a range of charming local shops and restaurants two minutes' walk away. Riverside walks to Kew gardens, Putney, Fulham, Chiswick, Richmond Park, alongside the river all the way. It is possible to walk ( or cycle) to Hampton Court (12 miles)all the way along the river, barely crossing a road, and to catch a bus home if you prefer.

Our Cotswold cottage is in a small and very pretty village 10 minutes' drive from Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford, Cirencester, Cheltenham and Bibury and 35 minute drive from Oxford, 45 minute drive to Stratford on Avon. The nearest small town, Northleach, is a 15 minute walk across fields or a 5 minute drive away. It has an excellent restaurant, several friendly local pubs and a well known wine bar as well as a renowned local butcher, a pharmacy, baker and general grocery store.
