Our home

Our home is 5 bedroom Edwardian (built in 1911) Arts and Crafts terraced family house. It's beautifully decorated, well furnished and with all modern conveniences. On ground level, there is a large kitchen/diner, a family sitting room to the rear with access to the garden and a 'grown ups' sitting room to the front, plus a downstairs WC. Upstairs, we have 3 double bedrooms and 2 singles - the house comfortably sleeps 8. Upstairs, there are 2 bathrooms (both with shower cubicles and one with bath) plus a separate laundry room and an office. The house is set back from the road with off-street parking (see photo). To the rear, there is a small garden - but certainly enough space to have a BBQ or play swingball! We have a cat but feeding her is not always essential as she's fed by almost all our neighbours!

Who we are

  1. We are in our mid 40s with with 3 kids aged 13,11 and 9. We have lived in Clapham for 20 years. We work in public relations/lobbying in the public and charity sectors.

We haven't done a home exchange before but hope to find someone who would like to swap homes in 2011. Due to school holidays and other commitments, we are rather restricted on when we can swap. Nevetheless, here's our ideal swaps for 2011-12:

    a) early August 2011: one week in Andalucia, Spain on or near the beach near somewhere like Cadiz or Malaga
    b) last weekend in August 2011, to Edinburgh, Scotland
    c) October 2011, somewhere new we haven't been before and which we can get to easily and cheaply
    d) New Year's Eve 2011/12 long weekend or February school half term 2012 - skiing somewhere maybe?

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our street is very quiet - the kids can even play football in the road. It's a friendly neighbourhood and we know most of our neighbours - yet it is just 5 mins walk from the hustle and bustle of Clapham High Street and the open space of Clapham Common (park). Clapham is a lovely central area of London, very close to the City and West End (by bus or tube/metro) but a place in its own right spread around the Common. It has become a highly desirable part of SW London. Restaurants, traditional pubs and bars, shops including a supermarket within 5 mins walk and many designer shops, cinema, etc, are all on your doorstep and it's a short ride on the tube (Clapham Common station) or bus (the famous no.88) to all the sights of central London. Chelsea Kings Road & Knightsbridge are easily accessible by bus too (no 137). You would not need a car while staying here but if you have a car it's very handy that you'll be able to park in our drive. For getting away from the city, we are also v close to Clapham Junction train station for train travel to the south and west of England (eg to get to Windsor, Brighton, Richmond Park, etc, and also to get to Gatwick Airport), and just a few tube stops to Kings Cross or Euston for train travel to the north or Eurostar to France. Heathrow airport is less than one hour by road or public transport. We have lived in Clapham for 20 years and heartily recommend it.
