Our home

We have a beautiful Georgian (1820s) town house in a unique central location. It was originally a pub - called The House They Left Behind (changed from its original 1800's name of the Black Horse after WWII when the rest of the street was flattened). The house was remodeled recently by us and made into a lovely 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house with walled garden.

Our house is on three floors - we have a smart, historic reception hall with fireplace, chandelier and antiques, which opens into a huge kitchen, dining area seating up to 10 and living area with large sofa and 42" LCD TV.

Upstairs we have three double bedrooms - the master bed has a huge bed - and one single bedroom with a cot. We use Bed 4 as a second living room - it also has twin beds so you can have it as a double bedroom too, it works well as both.

All the bedrooms look over the park and the front rooms look over the historic Narrow Street conservation area - see the pics.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of four. Rupert is a media / tech lawyer and start-up consultant and Amanda looks after our toddlers, Benjy & Barney. We love living here, so close to the heart of London but within a small, friendly neighborhood. We enjoy being able to step out of the front door and step into the park or cross the road for a drink or stroll by the river. The house is fabulous for entertaining and cosy for quiet evenings in. The kitchen opens into the living area & garden so that everyone can hang out together - or you can retreat to the upstairs sitting room for a little peace & quiet. For venturing around London, everywhere is just a short hop. The Olympic Park, City, Canary Wharf and West End and all doable in less than 30 mins. Since taking the photos we have had a baby so there is also a ready supply of toddler / baby toys and kit.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We are right in the middle of town, 20 metres from the banks of the Thames (views from upstairs) and literally on the boundary of a local park and in the midst of a historic area - with some notable neighbours including Oscar winners and Lords. We are only 5 mins from the City of London on the monorail (DLR) and 8 minutes walk from Canary Wharf (London's newest residential / shopping / financial district).
It is a quick DLR, tube, bus or taxi ride to "The City" and the West End (theatre land). You can be at Harrods in 30 minutes.

We are one minute from The Grapes - a lovely historic riverside pub voted London's best pub several times in recent years. We are a couple of minutes from The Narrow - a Gordon Ramsay riverside restaurant and several other wonderful restaurants.
