Our home

Our flat is on two floors with a combined kitchen and sitting room on the top (4th) floor with great views of the City and The Shard (London's newest skyscraper designed by Renzo Piano) on one side and a good-sized terrace on the other. Downstairs (3rd floor) there are two bedrooms (one with a king-size bed and one with a double bed), two shower rooms (one en-suite) and a decent-sized study. (Please see the photos.)

It is modern, has lots of windows and so feels very light and airy. It is warm in winter and cool in summer.

The only downside to our flat (in our opinion!) is that there is no lift.

The flat best suits four adults but we do have a very comfortable and easy to inflate/deflate aerobed which could be put up in the study.

We have a cleaner who comes once a week.

We have had lots of enquiries about our apartment - too many to keep up with, so please forgive us if we don't reply to your enquiry. We are really only interested in an exchange with someone in Manhattan at the moment.

Property features

Who we are

  1. I am a lawyer specialising in pensions law. My husband, Keith, is a software engineer. We are in our 40's with no kids. We like to visit new places and try and have more than just a 'tourist experience' and living like a local via an house swap seem like a great way of helping us to achieve that.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our flat is situated on Bermondsey Street which has over the last few years become a very vibrant area of London with lots of trendy bars and very good restaurants (Jose, Zucca, Magdelen, The Hide and Village East to name but a few) and in the last couple of weeks the White Cube gallery.

The flat is in a small modern mixed-development (offices and apartments) and is set just off Bermondsey Street, so for central London it is very quiet. It is positioned next to a small park with free-to-use tennis courts and a childrens' playground.

The Thames and Tower Bridge are less than 10 minutes walk away. Borough Market is 10 minutes in the other direction. We also have local Saturday food markets in near-by Bermondsey Square and Maltby Street. The Globe Theatre and Tate Modern are a little further away (20 minutes at a reasonable pace). It is also possible to walk to the South Bank (for the National Theatre, Royal Festival Hall and the Millenium Eye) (a lovely 40 minutes walk along the River Thames) if you are feeling energetic.

London Bridge train, bus and underground (Jubilee and Northern Line) stations are under ten minutes walk away.
