Our quiet, comfortable family home is a wonderful base for exploring London and its endless cultural, historical, culinary and outdoor delights. The house is on three levels, with three bedrooms and a study overlooking the pretty garden and wooden deck with outdoor dining table. On the ground floor is a pleasant sitting room, dining room overlooking the rear garden, and a well-equipped kitchen, as well as a WC.
We are near the Piccadilly line underground train (tube) offering fast direct transport to such attractions as the British Museum, the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, Herrods and Knightsbridge shopping, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Science and Natural History Museums, as well as to the West End with its theatres and restaurants. Nearer to home is excellent shopping, dining, cinema and beautiful parks, including the renowned 800-acre Hampstead Heath.
We are an American family with dual US/UK citizenship, whose love of travel led us to move from Michigan to London 15 years ago. Brian is a financial journalist and Sheila is a corporate-communications manager for a large UK-based company. We have three daughters: a 21-year-old in her final year of university in the UK; an 18-year-old on a 'gap' year; and a 15-year-old student.
We have had five previous very successful home exchanges with lovely families in France and in Michigan. We especially appreciate home exchanges because of the chance they offer to live as 'natives' in a given area, as well as to explore areas we otherwise may have overlooked.
We are conscientious guests , and we treat our hosts' homes with utmost respect and care. We also strive to provide a very fresh, welcoming environment when you visit our home. We adore London, our beloved adopted home, and we will provide as much guidance as we can to help guests to see and do all that interests them in this richly cultural and historical city.
We live on a quiet residential street of one-family houses. Our nearby shopping area, Muswell Hill, is noted as one of the friendliest and most attractive of London's series of 'villages'. It offers excellent supermarkets, specialty shops, a good cinema, and lovely pubs and restaurants, including one of the most popular fish-and-chip shops in London. Within a five minute walk of home is a small food shop with a good selection of groceries, newspapers, etc., along with a pleasant pub with garden dining in summer.
Our nearest tube station, Bounds Green, on the north end of the Picadilly line, extends directly to Heathrow airport at the south end, and is located a 10-minute walk from our house There also is an overground train nearby that goes directly to the financial district of London, as well as numerous bus lines for access to many other areas of London.
