Our home

A beautiful Victorian (1873) house in a leafy area (Brockley, in Zone 2 so very central). 7 minutes by train to London Bridge or direct frequent buses to central London. Interior is spacious and modern with lots of books, music and art. We have all mod cons. including high speed wireless internet. Our garden is a magical shady oasis (no lawn) and perfect for eating and drinking in on long summer evenings. The house has 7 bedrooms, but 4 of these are used as workspaces, an office, storeroom and two artist's studios with printing presses. We would consider use of these in exchange for similar. This leaves 3 double bedrooms, two living rooms and a large kitchen/diner that leads out to the garden. We are two minutes from a lovely local park, Hilly Fields, which has tennis courts and a children's playground. We also have an apartment in the centre of a medieval hilltop town in Tuscany, Italy that we would consider exchanging or renting. Contact us for details.
Please note: we have arranged all our holidays for 2007 now so we are only open to offers in 2008 and beyond.

Property features

Who we are

  1. Nigel is a special effects model maker for film and television. Anita is a painter and printmaker who works from home and exhibits in many galleries worldwide. We have two daughters who may or may not travel with us. They are Maia who is 21 and is studying English Literature at university, and Leila who is 19 and is at art college. Anita was born in Australia and we have lots of family there, so try to visit regularly. We love walking and would be interested in exchanges in rural UK and Europe in the cooler months. We have had many happy exchanges in the past.
We don't have pets and Nigel is allergic to fur, so we could not exchange with a house where pets live indoors. However we would be happy to look after outdoor pets. We don't smoke and would prefer no smoking inside the house. We have a small car (Mercedes A Class) that could be exchanged, but London is better by public transport. Being in south East London means we have easy access to the countryside of Kent, Sussex and the South coast including the Channel Tunnel. We are within easy reach of the Eurostar terminal at Waterloo. We have many friendly neighbours who could help you feel at home.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Brockley is a leafy and pretty Victorian suburb near to Greenwich in South East London, zone 2 for public transport. It is a quiet but interesting area, especially known for its large number of visual artists. There are also many musicians, actors and writers living here. Nobody is quite sure why this is the case apart from that we are close to Goldsmiths College (University of London) and many ex students seem to stay on here. It is a very friendly multi ethnic community and we have many neighbours who could help you feel at home. Our nearest tube station is Lewisham which is on the Docklands Light Rail line, but it is quicker and easier for Central London to take an overground train or bus. Frequent buses go from the end of our road to central London. Brockley Station is 8 minutes walk away and very frequent trains take 7 minutes to London Bridge. Here you can connect to the tube, or walk along the South Bank to the Tate Gallery, the National Theatre and the Royal Festival Hall. Buses from the end of our road go direct to other parts of central London including Victoria, Oxford Street (Marble Arch) and the City.
