2 storey, end of terrace, ex council house, built in 1927 and renovated and extended 4 years ago. It is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and has off street parking, garden and patio both to side ( with potting/tool shed and bicycle storage), and back, where the end of the garden is enclosed with a small exercise room with sprung floor.
The ground floor comprises 2 adjoining rooms, one arranged as TV lounge and the other as study/bedroom plus bathroom; the extension provides side entrance with ramp, utility room with WC and cloak area and an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room giving onto a patio with pergola and garden with plants, shrubs, salad and herb borders.
The first floor has 3 double bedrooms, small study with single bed and 2 bathrooms.
Local transport is convenient with multiple buses from Brixton Road going North to West End and Paddington, Waterloo, South Bank, Holborn and Covent Garden or via London Bridge and on to Liverpool Street. To the South they go to Brixton and Clapham. From New Camberwell Road buses go to Victoria and on to Paddington or, in the opposite direction to New Cross and Goldsmiths Uni. The local Tube station is Oval on the Northern Line. Avoiding rush-hour, public transport provides quick and easy access to theatres, art galleries, and all that London has to offer.
We have a visiting cat who spends much of his time with us and whom I sometimes feed. His owner lives in a flat in the vicinity.
We returned to UK and London in 2003 after living and working for 23 years in Australia: initially in Perth, then Melbourne and finally in Sydney where we lived in Coogee and then Clovelly and where my 3 children passed lengthy periods with us; 2 of our grandchildren were born there. An 18 year old grandson is currently in Sydney; we plan to spend time with him and also to catch up with many old friends and former colleagues and to revisit favourite haunts both within Sydney and further afield in the Blue Mountains and national parks.
Being now in my 80s I feel this may be my last visit to Australia so that I would like to spend 2, or even 3 months during our London winter period. I enjoy walking, swimming, playing croquet, etc.. Other main interests will be theatre, music, cinema, art galleries, reading and relaxing plus re-visiting the wonderful city of Sydney. My daughter has a very small flat in Coogee and I would like to be somewhere within easy reach of that area.
The area has several parks and open spaces; the nearest, Kennington Park, is impressive with a variety of mature trees as well as a few recently planted. It has wide grassy areas for walking, running or ball games. There are tennis courts and outdoor exercise facilities, children's playground, an enclosed formal garden - recently extended and re-planted– and benches for peacefully sitting. There is a small caffé with Italian coffee and snacks.
In the opposite direction is Myatt's Fields, a large park and garden with open spaces and facilities for children. A horticultural area, where vegetables are produced and used to serve dishes at a kiosk, is open to interested persons in a casual manner.
Towards Denmark Hill is the extensive Ruskin Park which is more hilly to challenge runners or to toboggan on the rare occasions it snows in London. Brockley Park to the South has an open air swimming pool and is used for local festivals.
Clapham Common is a vast green space and there are leisure centres at both Clapham and Brixton with pool, exercise facilities, etc.
Brixton is a lively and interesting centre with Brixton Market offering a multi-cultural range of produce and general shopping. Our nearest Picture House Cinemas are the Brixton Ritzy and the Clapham Picture House with programmes for all tastes including the HD direct from major theatres and opera houses worldwide.
