Our home

Our home is a very comfortable, light-filled 1930s detached bungalow set in pretty gardens, up a tree lined drive away from the road in the village of Littleton close to the ancient city of Winchester. On the ground floor there is a lovely sitting room with original fireplace and comfortable sofas looking out over the front garden. There are two double bedrooms downstairs and a small back sitting room. The sofa in there converts to a double bed if needed. The study houses the computer and numerous books as well as a cycle machine!

At the back of the house is a well equipped oak kitchen leading to a light airy dining area with Victorian oak table and chairs. Large oak framed glass doors slide back giving access to the deck and back garden which is surrounded by a variety of mature trees. There is a bathroom with bath, power shower and toilet. Upstairs is a double bedroom with its own en suite shower room and toilet.

This is a characterful house where we have raised three children- all flown the nest. We love the house and are not ready to downsize yet!

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are Terry and Patsy Rath, now both retired. Terry was a educational administrator with Hampshire county council and Patsy was a school inspector. We love to travel and have particular preferences. Our son and his American wife live in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and are expecting their first baby in February 2012. We would very much like to exchange next March/April in that area so that we can support them as new parents! We are also interested in New Zealand in November/December time 2012 or even after Xmas and possibly southern Europe next September 2012. But we are also open to offers outside those times and beyond into 2013.

We are keen theatre goers and often go up to the West End and the National Theatre in London. Art exhibitions too are a favourite with too many galleries to choose from in London. Walking is another hobby. Terry runs a monthly walk with friends- you would be welcome to join this friendly bunch of people if dates fitted. Being close to open country, beautiful wooded Hampshire and the New Forest, it is easy to spend pleasant days exploring and enjoying local country pubs.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our village of Littleton is just 3 miles north west of the ancient capital of England- Winchester. It is a small village but has its own tennis courts, recreation ground, cricket ground and English pub. From the house there are numerous walks through the Hampshire countryside. From here we are close to a network of public footpaths ideal for exploring the area. We also have two bicycles that you can use for trips around the local villages.

Buses from Littleton take about 15 minutes to get to the town centre. In the car it takes about 10 minutes. Winchester is a really beautiful city with a majestic cathedral, a stunning Great Hall, numerous medieval buildings and around every corner lies another architectural gem. We love living here and have done so for over 30 years.

This is also a good base for visiting London- one hour by train with several trains each hour. We regularly go up to town for theatre/exhibitions etc. It is also close to Oxford- 45 minutes by car or one hour on the train. The New Forest is half an hour away by train or car and Bournemouth is 45 minutes by train and by car. The Dorset coast is also easy to reach by car as is Stonehenge, Salisbury, Chichester. Brighton is about 2 hours away. Heathrow is just one hour by car but there is an excellent bus service on offer between the airport and the town.
