Our home

This home was a self build in 2012,designed for flexible family living with space and light. Family, Food, Entertaining, and Music are key features of the home. At the heart of the house is the large (6m x 6m)open plan kitchen/dining area, with 5m wide glass bi-fold doors opening out to the garden and patio. The central granite style island with built in hob and extractor, several built-in ovens and a microwave, and several fridges and a freezer make cooking a pleasure within the light and spacious kitchen area. Throughout the ground floor the polished porcelain tiles, with under floor heating, add to the light and open feel. Also on the ground floor there is a family room, with a large sofa (big enough for 6 or more) and TV with surround sound, that opens up into the kitchen.
There is a music room, with an upright piano and a mini library of books. Off the hallway is the living room, with a large fireplace (gas- real fire affect), TV and grand piano. There is a toilet and shower room, as well as a utility room.
Upstairs there are five bedrooms and one study over the remaining 2 floors. There is a family bathroom (containing bath as well as shower), with 2 door access (to create an en-suite if required). On the first floor, there is a single bedroom and two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite bath and shower room. On the second floor, two very large single bedrooms bedrooms share a bathroom, and have excellent views over the surroundings.
The driveway has parking for more than 6 cars, and the rear garden is open and simple (approx. 15m x 25m) and overlooking wood and field at back. It has a stone patio.In the front garden there is an area of grass, hedge and a sunken trampoline.

There is plenty of storage.
A Sonos system enable music to be streamed to 3 different zones. Overall the home is practical and simple to operate.

Who we are

  1. We are David and Elizabeth and we have 3 teenage children, Ben, Harry and Olivia. We have lived in Little Shelford for 11 years, though our home is fairly new having only built it two years ago. We treat our home with particular care and it is comfortable, clean and spacious. We enjoy music (with a number of different instruments played), reading, food and a number of different sports.

Little Shelford is just under 5 miles from central Cambridge. Cambridge is easily accessible by bus, car, bicycle or train. So all that Cambridge has to offer is close to hand and accessible. Such as the colleges, architecture, punting, museums, and music.

Little Shelford is a community just on the outskirts of Cambridge (see web site for more details Within the Little Shelford village is a church, the recreation ground (and cricket pitch and Bowls), a very pleasant restaurant (the Sycamore House), a pub (The Navigator, and a fish and chip/Chinese take away. The feel is of a rural setting, with field and farming surrounding much of the village, and some pleasant areas for walking. Over the river into Great Shelford there are a number of shops (with an excellent delicatessen, and butchers) as well as a train station with trains into London or up to Cambridge(next stop).
Little Shelford is a friendly and pleasant community, with a relaxed and stable feel to it. It is well positioned for both train and road/motorway links.
