Our home

Sorry our home is NOT normally available in British school holidays. We also have a couple of outstanding swaps with dates yet to be confirmed.
Both simultaneous and non-simultaneous exchanges work well for us because we are often travelling. So if we stay at your place we can have you at our home at a later or earlier date to suit your travel arrangements and the climate differences North and South of the equator.
We find non simultaneous arrangements much more flexible for us than fixing dates too far in advance as we family to support, we often have to make our own travel plans at one or two weeks notice. We welcome exchanges with couples or single persons but the guest rooms available for exchange do not suit large groups.
WE repeat. Our house is NOT normally available during UK school holiday time (Christmas, Easter and August) as we entertain our own children and grand children at those times.
We live in a lovely old town house built in 1852. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all upstairs. There is an enclosed garden with seating and picnic table. The grass and hedges are maintained by a garden contractor.
The house was built when the town was the centre of a prosperous mining area. It was first lived in by a local mine captain (manager). The mining in Cornwall has all but finished now. The area has many mining heritage sites.
The house is a few minutes walk from the small town centre which provides banks, bakers, coffee shops, deli's, small supermarkets, library (with computer access if you do not have your own laptop), mini-museum, tourist office, chemists etc. Our home has broadband internet connection you can use if you travel with a small computer or smart phone
PS we do not normally exchange where pet care is involved.

Who we are

  1. We are Judy and Mike: both retired teachers. We are keen to complete our 'round Australia travels and have not as yet visited Darwin and the Northern part of Northern Territory. We have visited Australia and New Zealand on several occasions often enjoying interesting stopovers on our round the world tickets, destinations have included Hawaii, Fiji and Samoa.
We enjoy travelling in America and Canada also seek more visits there.
We have young grandsons living in Aberdeen and like to visit there a few times a year, so would be interested in exchanges within the UK "enroute".
We are open to any interesting exchange suggestions. We have been exchanging our home for holidays since 1980, we have completed about over 35 exchanges. In former years we exchanged homes with families because we have 6 children, now it is just us! Our home is NOT available in UK school holidays, as we are frequently busy with our grandchildren at those times (Christmas, Easter, July and August), but in term time we like to travel. We have a few outstanding non simultaneous commitments to fulfill with dates as yet unconfirmed: Otherwise we are very flexible - try us. We like to really experience the countries we visit, two to three months away is the ideal for us, with a mix of short (eg 7-14 days) exchanges and camping (we bring our own camping gear). We like to travel around and about so would not intend to stay in an exchange home for the whole of the exchange period. Most of our visitors do the same, taking advantage of the opportunity to explore Great Britain. We are quite happy to overlap with exchange partners and share catering where that suits as we have plenty of space outside school holiday times.
Non-simultaneous exchanges are very welcome, and particularly suited to those exchanging from Australia and New Zealand. We enjoy meeting our visitors, then we go away in our caravan whilst they enjoy staying in our home.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Liskeard is an excellent centre for exploring Cornwall, Plymouth and Devon. Liskeard is on the main rail line from London, the fastest link takes about 3.5 hours. The train is a good alternative to roads for getting up and down the spine of Cornwall or visiting further afield. However, a car is essential for exploring the coastline. There is a direct bus link to Heathrow airport. Exeter airport is 50 miles away but it has no direct public transport links to Liskeard.
Older buildings in Liskeard date from the 1600's, the church dates from the 1100's. There is a cattle market once a week but the town is not itself an exciting destination! Look at it on Google Maps street view. Liskeard is a few miles from prehistoric sites (eg stone circles), and historic mining sites, at Minions and on Bodmin Moor.
The coastline of Cornwall is beautiful, with wonderful beaches and cliffs with excellent walking tracks. The nearest seaside town is Looe, about 6 miles away. There is a railway linking the two towns. There is a coast path around Cornwall giving access to the whole coast (the very fit can walk the whole lot in 3 to 4 weeks!).
There are many historic houses and gardens in the county, our nearest, large, National Trust, historic house is Lanhydrock about 10 miles away. Cornwall is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK. It is very busy in school holidays but pleasant to explore at other times with charming villages, exceptional beaches, pre historic sites, little fishing quays and beautiful scenery.
