Our home

This is our holiday home and we absolutely love it! The photos don't do it justice! It is 45 minutes from our own home (https://www.homeforexchange.com/listing/united-kingdom/house-in-countryside) and is currently available for rent as a holiday home. We have a lot of repeat customers who also love it! I can offer this house outside of my busy season (not available Christmas / Easter / July / August / Halloween).

It is 50m from the edge of Lough Erne in beautiful Fermanagh Lakelands, Northern Ireland and just 1 mile from the border with Donegal, Ireland! Perfect for exploring Donegal and Sligo, Ireland as well as Co. Fermanagh and Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. There are two jetties on site where you can fish from (licences are cheap) or launch a kayak (not supplied). The cottage is on 7 acres of land and there are 3 other holiday cottages all privately owned beside ours, however each cottage is private. The site is gated so there is only access for the residents. From the minute you drive through the gates you can feel yourself relaxing!

The cottage is comfortable with stunning lake and rural views from the sunroom at the end of the lounge and from the kitchen. There is direct access from either room to the patio at the front where the outdoor furniture allow you to enjoy dining outside. Also on the ground floor there is a bathroom with walk in shower. Upstairs comprises three bedrooms: double with ensuite bathroom, two rooms with twin beds which can be made up individually or pushed together as twins. There is also a separate bathroom with shower, bath, and toilet. A cot and high chair is available on request. There is ample parking outside. A shed contains the charcoal barbecue.

The cottage is rated as 5 star by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and as such is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, in addition to having a fully equipped kitchen. Linen and towels are supplied. My website www.stunningshamrockcottage.com has more information.

Nearest airports are in Belfast - either Belfast International Airport (1 hr 45mins drive), Belfast City Airport (1hr 45mins drive), or Dublin (2.5 hours).

The cottage is available most of the year but may have existing bookings in place, so ask me about availability please. We prefer not to exchange it in July and August when we have many bookings for it. If you choose to stay in our own home for an exchange and there are some days available at Shamrock cottage during your visit then we can offer it to you.

Who we are

  1. My name is Anita and my husband is Dave and we have 4 sons (4, 9, 10 and 12). Anita is a photographer/tutor/farmer/mother etc and Dave is a fisheries consultant.

We are originally from Northern Ireland but spent almost a year backpacking through South east Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Canada. We spent 3.5 years living in Windsor, Ontario, Canada where our first son was born, and 7.5 years on the South Island of New Zealand (Dunedin, Christchurch, Timaru) where our other 3 boys were born. We moved back to Northern Ireland in 2014 and live beside our farm in Fermanagh where we look after cattle and sheep with Anita's brother Alexander.

We love to travel and miss the places we have lived! Travelling with all of us is expensive now, so we are looking forward to having some great holidays in some great places and meeting some great people! We love the beach, water activities, swimming, walking, bicycling, board games, and seeing new places.

With the children we are restricted to dates when they are off school. We could travel around Halloween (end Oct), maybe over Christmas, for 10 days to 2 weeks within July or August. Our holiday home Shamrock Cottage is available all of the year except Easter, July and August (peak period for our rental) and at other times subject to guest bookings. We are open to weekends or weeks.

Ideally if we were to exchange cars then we would need at least a 6 seater vehicle. Ours is a Vauxhall Zafira 7 seater, but an old version and is small so no room for luggage with 7 people!

We are going to holiday in Northern Ireland this year (2019). We are tied to school holidays for our breaks. We would also consider an exchange at Halloween or Summer 2020.

We would be very respectful of someone's home, just as we are of our own and our holiday home.
