Where is it?
A ten minute walk takes you to our local town centre offering excellent shopping facilities, including boutiques, a health food store, chemists, butchers, a good quality supermarket together with an international supermarket and various banks. There are many cafes and coffee shops including Costa Coffee, Starbucks and our favourite - a French Patisserie and Boulangerie called 'Le Moulin' where they make their own delicious savoury quiches, breads, cakes & croissants. The town also has traditional English pubs offering excellent value for money meals (breakfast too) and a wine bar. Local eateries cater for all tastes with many fine restaurants i.e., French, Mexican, Italian, Thai, Turkish, Indian etc. There is a theatre too (which often shows West End productions). We are within walking distance to a regular bus service allowing easy access to various other town centres nearby, a large shopping mall, a big street market full of characters selling fruit, vegetables, fish, clothes, flowers and many other items.
The house is ideally situated for rail travel having the choice of two railway stations (offering a District Line tube service) being easily accessible & providing connections to central London in approx. 30 mins (the trains run every few minutes & you can either take the bus or walk to the local tube stations).
Once in London you are spoilt for choice; take in a show at the many London Theatres or perhaps take a tour with one of the Yeoman Warders around the Tower of London, one of the world's most famous buildings. Discover its 900-year history as a royal palace, prison and place of execution, arsenal, jewel house and zoo! Gaze up at the White Tower, tiptoe through a medieval king's bedchamber and marvel at the Crown Jewels. Then there's the crowning glory of Trafalgar Square, London's National Gallery is a vast space filled with Western European paintings from the 13th to the 19th centuries. In this iconic art gallery you can find works by masters such as Van Gogh, da Vinci, Botticelli, Constable, Renoir, Titian and Stubbs. The Coca-Cola London Eye is a major feature of London's skyline. It boasts some of London's best views with an unforgettable perspective of more than 55 of London's most famous landmarks. As well as the permanent dinosaur exhibition, the Natural History Museum boasts a collection of the biggest, tallest and rarest animals in the world. See a life-sized blue whale, a 40-million-year-old spider, and the beautiful Central Hall. Most of our London Museums have free entry - the Victoria & Albert Museum, Science Museum, British Museum, Imperial War Museum, Museum of London and a few more. Other attractions worth a visit are The London Dungeon, Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey (where the Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton took place). All these places are very easy to access. The hop-on, hop-off bus tour of London is great and also includes a free cruise along the River Thames; a selection of guided walking tours and a Big Bus voucher booklet that offers a range of discounts at attractions, shops and restaurants. The tour also offers you a choice of a recorded commentary in a range of languages, or a live commentary delivered by the entertaining guides! If you love art (as I do) Thames Clippers also provide the popular Tate to Tate boat between Tate Britain and Tate Modern (both with free entry) & you will pass the Houses of Parliment & St. Pauls Cathedral.
Nearer home, there is an activity centre offering rock climbing, abseiling, zip wire together with water sports (open canoeing, sailing etc.).
Numerous golf courses are nearby together with a golfing range.
From our house, access to the M25 is about 10 minutes away (which is the major motorway network) allowing access to wherever you want to go i.e., Oxford, The Cotswolds (beautiful), Warwick Castle or perhaps Stonehenge or Windsor Castle.
