Our home

Our house is pretty and comfortable, in the picturesque village of Hinton Charterhouse, with it's two pubs and ancient church, set in the beautiful Cotswold Hills.

It is only 10 minutes drive away from the centre of the city of Bath. A regular bus service passes through the village, or you can cycle (30 minutes) or walk there (1 hour).

The kitchen is a good size and has all the appliances and conveniences you would expect in a modern kitchen.
The sitting-dining room has a stone fireplace (coal burning), and there is a lovely conservatory; they both open directly onto the garden.
There are two bathrooms, three bedrooms - two double and one single which also has a sofa-bed - set around a central hallway.

At the front there is a small garden, with a driveway and parking for two cars.
There are good views from the sitting room - you can see across the beautiful hills, a great place to go walking.
There is a small, well tended garden to the rear of the house, with a terrace and barbecue, storage for bicycles etc.

Who we are

  1. We have three kids - 19, 19 and 21 - two go to university and one is travelling in the Far East.
My wife Elizabeth is an artist and some of her drawings and sculptures can be found in the house and garden. She also works part-time in Bath.
I (Mark) own and run a marketing communications company in Bath, advising on creativity and branding, designing and building websites and brochures.
Our car is a Ford Focus (5 seats).
We have house-swapped many times before; our visitors have always loved our house, the city of Bath and its environs, and we love to experience new places and cultures.
We have a friendly cat called Mittens. She needs to be fed with biscuits and water (not wet food). Her favourite thing is to be stroked while she is eating!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house is just a 10 minute drive from the centre of the historic and famous city of Bath - a beautiful city built 250 years ago in the classical (Georgian) style and still almost completely intact.
It is famous for its impressive crescents and streets, beautiful architecture and honey-coloured stone. Visiting Bath is a wonderful aesthetic and historical experience.
Bath is a Unesco World Heritage Site and the most popular UK tourist destination west of London. It is also one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations.
It has a population of 85,000 and is famous not only for its fabulous architecture and great historical interest, but also for its natural thermal spa, its many highly-rated museums and art galleries, its shopping, many restaurants and vibrant nightlife.
It's a fascinating and beautiful place to spend time in - you cannot get bored in Bath!

The Cotswold countryside around Bath is particularly beautiful, and suitable for walking, cycling, horse riding and exploring. The Cotswold Hills region (designated a national 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty') has beautiful ancient towns and villages with quaint pubs, churches and grand houses, many of which you can visit.

The mountains of Wales are less than an hour away, while beautiful beaches and the rustic charm of Somerset is on the doorstep. Devon and Cornwall are easily accessible too, for surfing.

London is just 90 minutes away (by train or motorway), Stonehenge 45 minutes, the nearest seaside resort 60 minutes, and Stratford-on-Avon (the birthplace of Shakespeare, with its 3 shakespearean theatres) 90 minutes.

Our house is near the centre of Hinton Charterhouse, a small and pretty village on the outskirts of Bath. It has 2 typical country pubs and a small convenience shop/post office, just a 2 minute walk from the house. The countryside surrounding offers beautiful views as well as walks, hikes, and cycle trails.

There is a regular bus which stops in the village. The main Bath train station is a 10 minute drive away.
