Our home

I love our house. It is a 150 year old semi-detached cottage that has been extended over the years. It is located on the edge of the village where it is beautifully quiet. If you would like a quiet retreat our house is ideal.
Downstairs there is an open plan dining room and kitchen which has recently been added to the house. The dining room has French doors which open onto the garden. The old part of the house includes a large lounge, with large leather sofas and wood burning stove. There is also a small snug with a sofa and desk. There is also a utility room and downstairs shower room.
Upstairs the master bedroom and en-suite overlook the back garden and fields. In addition there is another double bedroom, two single bedrooms (one has and extra pull-out bed), a small study and family bathroom.
Being an older house the ceilings are lower than modern houses, however this makes it cosy in the winter. It also has its quirks being an older property but having said that I wouldn’t change it. We have solar panels and an air source heat pump which provide our heating and endless hot water. The newer part of the house has under floor heating. The rest of the house has radiators.
Outside we have a small courtyard garden to the front of the house. This is mainly made up of a herb garden. At the back of the property we have a large garden which includes a large drive way, (we use our back door much more than our front door), small pond and lots of fruit trees and bushes. It is also home to 8 chickens and 4 ducks. They have the freedom of our garden during the day and in return we have fresh eggs from spring through to winter.

Who we are

  1. We are Claire and Simon. We have two sons (12 and 9) so our home is set up for children and is there to be lived in. We both work (Speech and Language Therapist and teacher), so having some time away to enjoy with family is really important to us. We also have 8 chickens and 4 ducks that live in our garden. Giving us lovely fresh eggs for the majority of the year.

We all enjoy cooking in our family, so our kitchen has almost anything you can ask for. My boys also enjoy technology so there is plenty of that in the house.

I like to think of myself as a gardener although our large garden seems to be dominated by the children and animals rather than immaculate plants, however we spend a lot of our time relaxing outside, enjoying the peace and quiet.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live 1/2 mile from our village, surrounded by fields. There are 6 houses near us so we are not completely isolated, but our location is quiet with little passing traffic.

The village has a small shop and post office and there is a pub within walking distance.

Ideally you need a car as public transport is limited. There is lots to do though as we are 15 minutes drive from Norwich, 20 minutes drive from the beach and 5 minutes drive from the Norfolk Broads (inland waterways). There are also lots of opportunities for walking, watching wildlife and outdoor sports.

If you prefer towns and cities, Norwich is excellent for restaurants, shopping and entertainment. London is a two hour train journey, which makes a day trip to London possible. This means you can enjoy the English countryside whilst also seeing sites such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the London Eye.
