Our home

Our house is a wonderful old Victorian detached house set back from the road in a large garden, We bought the house 5 years ago and have spent much time since then painstakingly restoring/rebuilding it to it's former glory. It's now a really comfortable, warm, functional home with the benefit of beautiful gardens including a small orchard. It's had just about new everything but we have tried hard to keep the style very traditional. There are 3 big double bedrooms, one with an en-suite and one with a basin and 2 smaller single bedrooms. All the rooms have fabulous double glazed sash windows and most have original (non-working) fireplaces. There are 2 new bathrooms upstairs (1 en-suite to master), both with power shower and bath. The ensuite can be accessed from either the master bedroom or the landing half way up the stairs. Downstairs, the heart of the house is the amazing hall. Around 30ft long it runs the length of the house with lovely views to the garden at the end. The kitchen/breakfast room with utility is huge. It's a great entertaining space and has all the appliances you could dream of including a separate utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and separate drying/boiler room. There are also 3 big reception rooms, an office and a cloakroom/wc downstairs. The main sitting room has a log fire and the Drawing room has a coal burning stove powered by gas. There are 3 tv's downstairs and 2 upstairs, high speed wi-fi throughout and cable tv with recording.

Who we are

  1. Penny (42), Richard (47) and Libby (4) are taking a sabbatical on board their sailing yacht Wild Bird. We are looking for an exchange in mid December 2011 in the US or British Virgin Islands. Our boat is being shipped to St Thomas from the Mediterranean and we need to be there to meet it. As dates tend be rather flexible with shipping we would like to have a shore base for a week or so at that time.
We would also be interested in other Caribbean or Florida destinations from April-Aug 2012.
Having spent such a long time restoring our own home, we would be sure to look after yours as if it was our own. We are non-smokers and our little girl is very well behaved. Our house is available any time between May 2011 and July 2012 so although we are looking to travel at specific times you could still enjoy the English summer! Second homes / Non-simultaneous ideal.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Set back from the road and built in 1897, on a plot some 100 metres in length, our house stands in a quiet leafy avenue just one mile from the picturesque shoreline of Chichester harbour and between the towns of Emsworth and Havant. Fast trains to London (75 mins.) are a ten minute walk away, the motorway network is 5 minutes drive, and fast ferries to the Isle of Wight and France are close by. Locally you are in the ideal place to explore Hampshire & West Sussex and are spoilt for choice in terms of activities to enjoy. Close by (approx.1 mile) you have access to good super markets, local amenities, good pubs and local restaurants. To the East there is the Cathedral town of Chichester (9miles) with it's renown theatre, fine dining and great shopping. Due South of Chichester are the Witterings (5 miles), beautiful beaches, fantastic for swimming, surfing and wind surfing. To the South there is Hayling Island and the Isle of Wight in the Solent, the heart of UK yachting and offering a host of activities for the visitor. To the North you are at the gateway to the South Downs where you will find some of the UK's best walking, golf courses and great country pubs. Also closeby is the Goodwood estate (9 miles) which hosts world famous horse racing and motoring events throughout the year. Lastly to the West there is the town of Portsmouth (7 miles) with it's historic naval dockyard Slightly further West (30 miles) there is the New Forest.
