Our home

Our home is situated on 'The Ridge' which runs behind the town of Hastings, which means that we have wonderful views over woodland to the ancient castle of Hastings and the English channel. It is south-facing and the extensive deck area catches the sun and is very private. The woodland and fields next to the house are a trust area that is open to the public providing beautiful walks from our doorstep. The house is build on the side of the hill and is on three levels. There is a spacious open sitting and dining room with french windows giving onto a terrace and on the floor below a garden room giving on to the deck. The kitchen is well-equipped and there is a seperate uitility room on the lower level. The master bedroom has an en-suite wash-basin and shower. The second bedroom has a double bed and a third has a sofa bed and is a second tv viewing room. The fourth is set up as a study with high speed broadband. The bathroom has been very recently renovated and includes a jacuzzi bath.

Who we are

  1. We are Michael and Janet - both retired headteachers of Primary Schools in Hastings. We have travelled extensively and visited Sydney before as our younger daughter is married to an Australian and lives in Earlwood. WE were in Sydney July 2008 for the birth of their first baby. We had a very successful 8 week exchange in her locality in Oct/Nov 2010. We wish to visit regularly but we are also looking for possibilities in other areas where they could join us for a holiday together. e.g.WE would love to spend time in the Blue Mountains. We could do a non-simultaneous exchange as we travel with our caravan in Europe during our Spring/Summer. All possibilities considered!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Hastings has the historic connection of The Battle of Hastings (1066). There are very many interesting places to visit within a short distance from our house and all the information regarding these is available from our local Tourist Office. We have two train lines from Hastings - one goes to London(Victoria); Gatwick airport; Brighton and the other goes to London (Charing Cross); Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. London is only 1Hr 35 mins by train and Brighton is 1hour. We are a one and a half-hour drive from the ferry port at Dover so access to the Continent is quick and easy. Not only can one walk from our house but there are many beautiful rural locations for walking nearby - from Sussex downland; farm and woodland to marsh flats. There are several conservation areas, bird sanctuaries and woodland trust areas.
