Who we are

  1. We are a careful and considerate couple. Both of us have been teachers and are now retired. We are keen sailors and have sailed for many years in the Greek Ionian Islands. We also enjoy swimming (indoor pool is 3mins walk away), walking, cycling, bird-watching, dancing and entertaining.

We are both very conscientious people and would take great care of both property and contents. Our house is uncluttered and the garden is very low maintenance and we would wish to exchange with similar. We are both non-smokers and would only wish to exchange with non-smokers. We are experienced exchangers having swapped with couples from Sydney, Auckland, Melbourne, Perth, Burleigh Heads, the Sunshine Coast, Adelaide, Nelson, France and Cape Town.

We would also like to include the exchange of cars. We are able to consider a non simultaneous option as our home can be available in the UK summer. We now have exchanges arranged for 2020 and 2021.

Your neighbourhood

Harwich and Dovercourt Bay are in a beautiful green area with the sea on one side and rivers on the other. Our home is situated in a small quiet cul-de-sac with no through traffic, and with sea views from the main bedroom. It is a two minute walk to the sea front with a wonderful promenade into historic Harwich with its interesting bustling harbour at the mouth of the beautiful Rivers Stour and Orwell. Harwich old town was one of the main ferry ports for travellers taking the packet ships to Holland, Belgium and the continent. It was a Royal Navy base and ship yard. The conservation town of Harwich has many old and listed buildings, pubs and restaurants. The captain of the Mayflower, Capt Christopher Evans lived in, and sailed for the new world from Harwich with the Pilgrim Fathers (his house still exists) and a replica of the Mayflower is being constructed in Harwich today. Celebrations are planned in 2020 to mark 400 years since the Mayflower set sail. Harwich hosts The Festival of Arts at the end of June, Secret Gardens in July (26 private gardens open to the public), The Sea and Lifeboat Festival also in July, the air ambulance motorbike rally (an amazing 5000 bikes) in September and an International Sea Shanty Festival in October.

London is just over an hour away by car or can be reached by train into Liverpool Street station. Cambridge is about an hour away, Oxford is about 2 hrs. Locally, we are well placed to visit many lovely old villages and quaint market towns of East Anglia including Ipswich, Woodbridge and Felixstowe to the north, and locally historic roman Colchester, Frinton and Clacton and the amazing Constable Country of the Dedham Vale to the west (Flatford Mill about 30 mins away). Further afield are historic towns such as Saffron Walden, Thaxted, Norwich and the Norfolk Broads. We have 3 supermarkets within 5 mins drive, an historic cinema (The Electric Palace) showing films and hosting Jazz nights, a Nepoleonic Fort (The Redoubt) and many old pubs and eating places. The newer airport of Stansted is less than an hour away with its cheaper flights to the continent. There are two ferries each day for vehicles and foot passengers to The Hook of Holland.
